Four in Double Figures Propels Hoyas Past Siena 83-65

WASHINGTON – Kaiden Rice (23) and Donald Carey (20) combined for 43 points as the Hoyas rolled past the Siena College Saints, 83-65, in a Friday night tilt. The Hoyas used precision shooting from the perimeter (66.7%) en route to the victory and improved to 2-1 on the season while the Saints slipped to 0-4.

ON THE RECORD
"He's an elite shooter. I've had the opportunity to play against guys who were elite shooters - Chris Mullin, Larry Bird, Reggie Miller … one of the things I keep telling him is that those guys worked on their game every day. He works on his game and he believes in that shot."  - Head Coach Patrick Ewing on Kaiden Rice

"I knew my teammates were going to get me the ball at the right spots at the right time and my job is just to simply knock it down. I think they did a good job of finding me today. The game plan from Coach worked to perfection." - Kaiden Rice on his 23-point performance

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Rice led four Hoyas in double figures with 23 points, his largest point total as a Hoya, on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. The graduate student drained seven 3-pointers while adding four rebounds and an assist to his final line.
  • Carey racked up 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor to go with four rebounds and four assists.
  • Dante Harris registered his second double-digit scoring performance in as many games with a 14-point showing to go along with four assists and a trio of boards in more than 27 minutes of action while Aminu Mohammed tallied his third straight game with at least 10 points, finishing the contest with 11 to go along with a team-high seven rebounds in his 30 minutes of work.
  • The Hoyas shot 28-for-49 from the floor (57.1%) for the game, including a 12-of-18 (66.7%) performance from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mohammed forced a turnover and stormed down the court for the first bucket of the game before Rice drained a 3-pointer on the following possession for a 5-0 run to open the game.
  • After Siena scored its first basket, Georgetown went on another 5-0 run to put the home team up by eight, 10-2.
  • After Siena pulled to within two (15-13), GU's defense forced three turnovers and tallied eight unanswered over two minutes of action to take a double-digit lead, 23-13.
  • Ryan Mutombo met Siena's Michael Tertsea at the rim and blocked the layup with 45 seconds remaining in the frame before going into the break with a 10-point lead, 44-34.
  • Both teams exchanged buckets through the opening three minutes of the second half before an 8-0 run sparked by a Carey trey helped the Blue & Gray to a 58-40 lead.
  • At the 11:30 mark of the second half, Jordan Riley stole the ball, broke down the court and dished an alley-oop that was slammed home by fellow freshman Jalin Billingsley.
  • Georgetown led by as many as 21 down the stretch en route to the 83-65 victory.

OF NOTE
  • Rice and Carey are the first pair of 20-point scorers in a game since Harris and former Hoya Javhon Blair dropped 22 and 20 points, respectively, in the team's downing of St. John's on Dec. 13, 2020.
  • With seven 3-pointers, Rice downed the most shots from downtown since Greg Malinowski on Jan. 2, 2019, against Butler.
  • The team's 12 treys are the most in a game since the Hoyas drained 14 at SMU on Dec. 8, 2019.
  • For the game, Georgetown shot 57.1 percent from the field, its highest since Dec. 8, 2021 against Coppin State where they posted a 54.7 mark.
