Hoyas Host Columbia on Sunday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the Columbia University Lions in a nonconference matchup on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at McDonough Arena.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 70-55 loss against Davidson on Wednesday evening at McDonough Arena.
  • Sophomore Kelsey Ransom led the way with 13 points as the lone Hoya in double figures, while also pulling down a team-best nine rebounds to go along with seven assists.  
  • Senior Jillian Archer managed nine points, six rebounds and four blocks in the contest.
  • The Hoyas shot 38.6 percent (17-44) and allowed 45.6 percent (26-57) shooting by the Wildcats.
  • GU was outrebounded by Davidson 31-29 and had 22 turnovers to the Wildcats' 16.
  • The Hoyas boast four players in double figures for the season as graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris leads the way with 12.7 ppg. Junior Graceann Bennett and Ransom are both second with 11.0 ppg apiece and Archer rounds out the top four averaging 10.7 ppg.
  • Georgetown is in the midst of a five-game homestand at McDonough Arena.
About the Lions
  • Columbia is 4-0 on the season marking the first time it has started the year with four straight wins since 2002. The team's last three wins have all come on the road.
  • Kaitlyn Davis scored 15 of her game-high 17 points in the second half to push Columbia past Lafayette 72-59 Thursday night.
  • The Lions currently have four players averaging in double figures as Abbey Hsu leads the way with 19.0 ppg.
  • Columbia has victories over Hampton (78-56), Davidson (87-78) and Clemson (82-78) as well as Lafayette.
  • The Lions were selected third in the Ivy League Preseason Coaches Poll.
Series History
  • The Hoyas are 2-1 all-time against the Lions.
  • The last meeting was a 54-49 Hoya loss in New York during the 2019-20 campaign.
  • The teams would have met last year in the home-and-home agreement, but COVID-19 forced nonconference games to be canceled for the Blue & Gray.
  • Georgetown is 2-0 at home against Columbia winning in both 1996-97(101-61) and 2002-03 (70-49).
All Georgetown women's basketball home matches are currently scheduled to be played at McDonough Arena.
