Georgetown in California for Paycom Wooden Legacy Tournament, Faces San Diego State

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will hit the road for the first time this season when it tips off the Paycom Wooden Legacy Tournament with an 11:30 p.m. ET matchup against San Diego State at the Anaheim Convention Center on Thursday evening.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Georgetown University men's basketball team will look to jump on a three-game winning streak as it hits the road for the Paycom Wooden Legacy Tournament to face San Diego State.
  • The Hoyas are coming off of an 83-65 win over Siena, featuring a pair of 20-point scorers in Kaiden Rice (23) and Donald Carey (20).
  • Rice and Carey are the first pair of 20-point scorers in a game since Dante Harris and former Hoya Javhon Blair dropped 22 and 20 points, respectively, in the team's downing of St. John's on Dec. 13, 2020.
  • Harris and Aminu Mohammed also racked up double-digit points against the Saints, recording 14 and 11, respectively.
  • Harris and Carey each recorded a team-leading four helpers in the contest, moving their 4.3 assists per game mark into a tie for sixth in the BIG EAST.
  • For the season, Carey leads a quartet averaging double figures with 15.3 ppg, followed by Mohammed (14.0), Harris (11.7) and Rice (11.3).
  • Rice ranks third in the league in 3-pointers per game with 3.3, sitting behind Villanova's Collin Gillespie (3.5) and St. John's Julian Champagnie (3.5).
  • As a team, the Hoyas rank second in the conference with their 41.5 percent shooting from behind the arc, trailing just Villanova (43.7).
 
ABOUT THE AZTECS
  • San Diego State will also try to go on a three-game winning streak in its Thanksgiving Day showdown with the Hoyas.
  • Two nights after stunning Arizona State on Nov. 18, 65-63, the Aztecs knocked off UT Arlington behind a 15-point, six-rebound performance from Matt Bradley, their leading scorer.
  • The Aztecs are shooting 40.1 percent from the field, the second-worst mark in the Mountain West while sitting ahead of UNLV (39.1) while holding the bottom mark in 3-point percentage at 24.6 percent.
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Thursday's contest will mark the second meeting ever between these two teams with the Hoyas securing a 71-53 win on Dec. 5, 1981.
  • Georgetown is 16-4 all-time against schools from the Mountain West Conference.
  • The Hoyas have drained nearly 22 percent more of its shots (46.2) from behind the arc than the Aztecs (24.6).
  • San Diego State ranks last in the Mountain West with 10 assists per game while Georgetown is averaging 14.3.
  • Georgetown Head Coach Patrick Ewing played his fifth game with the Blue & Gray in the first meeting between the two teams, posting 11 points and six rebounds.
