Georgetown Hosts Former BIG EAST Foe Syracuse on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team will look to make it two in a row when it faces former BIG EAST rival Syracuse on Saturday for a noon matchup at Capital One Arena. The Hoyas enter the game with a 4-4 record while the Orange hold a 5-4 mark.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas registered its first 100-point performance of the season with its 100-71 victory over UMBC, marking the first time they hit the 100-point plateau since 2018 against Howard.
  • Kaiden Rice broke the school's 3-pointer record (7), originally set by Mark Tillmon against Providence (02/13/1990) with his 10 triples against the Retrievers. His 34-point performance snapped his previous best of 30. Rice shot 11-for-14 from the field and put forth a 10-for-12 showing from behind the arc while adding three boards and three assists in 30 minutes of action.
  • Rice jumped to second in the nation with 4.25 treys per game and sixth with 34 made 3-pointers following his record-breaking performance. His 45.3 percent efficiency from distance ranks second in the BIG EAST behind Xavier's Nate Johnson (49.1).
  • Ryan Mutombo registered his first career double-double with 15 points on seven made field goals and 11 rebounds.
  • Aminu Mohammed registered his BIG EAST-leading third double-double of the season, posting 13 points (5-10 FG) while pulling down 10 boards.
  • Mutombo's and Mohammed's performances on Wednesday marked the first time two players recorded a double-double in the same game since Omer Yurtseven (10P, 11R) and Jamorko Pickett (18P, 11R) on Jan. 8, 2020 against St. John's.
  • Dante Harris rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points to go along with six rebounds and a game-high seven assists.
  • Malcolm Wilson put up a career-high four blocks on the game while adding four points and three rebounds to his final line.
  • As a team, the Hoyas rank second in the BIG EAST with 42.8 rebounds per contest,13.6 offensive rebounds per game, and shooting 38.9 percent from distance. They also sit in third with 8.8 triples per contest and 29.1 defensive boards per game.
 
ABOUT THE ORANGE
  • Syracuse is coming off a 67-53 loss to No. 6/6 Villanova at the Jimmy V Classic after knocking off Indiana, 112-110, in double overtime and Florida State in its ACC opener, 63-60.
  • The Orange have five players averaging in double figures, led by Head Coach Jim Boeheim's sons, Buddy and Jimmy, registering 17.7 and 14.9 points per game, respectively.
  • Buddy Boeheim ranks seventh in the ACC in scoring and leads the conference in field goal attempts (140), 3-point attempts (62), and minutes per game (38:13).
  • As a team, Syracuse sits among the ACC's top three in free throw percentage (76.5, 1st), free throws made (137, 3rd) and fewest fouls per game (14.0, 3rd).
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Saturday marks the 97th meeting with both teams splitting its last two meetings.
  • The Hoyas are 3-1 against the Orange at home since 2013, most recently knocking off the visiting club, 89-79, on Dec. 14, 2019. Omer Yurtseven nearly logged a double-double with a 19-point, nine-rebound performance against Syracuse.
  • In last year's matchup at the Carrier Dome, Jamorko Pickett led the Hoyas with 17 points while Jahvon Blair recorded a double-double (16P, 10A) and Carey rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 of his own.
