WASHINGTON – Georgetown University juniors
Dante Polvara and
Will Sands were both named United Soccer Coaches First Team Scholar All-Americans as announced by the organization on Thursday. This marks Georgetown's first Scholar All-American honor since the 2015 season.

- This is Polvara's first national academic honor.
- He was also selected First Team Scholar All-South Region by the United Soccer Coaches.
- On Wednesday, Polvara was named a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist.
- It was his second time being named a MAC Hermann semifinalist after earning the distinction a season ago.
- Polvara was the 2021 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year as well as a First Team All-BIG EAST selection.
- He also earned United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American and First Team All-East Region honors.
- The midfielder started all 22 games for the Blue & Gray and led the team in scoring with seven goals and six assists for 20 points.
- Three of his goals were game winners this past season.
- The team captain was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week twice this past year as well as earning a nod to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor roll.
- Polvara is a finance major with a 3.560 cumulative GPA.
Will Sands

- This is Sands' first national academic honor.
- He was also selected First Team Scholar All-South Region by the United Soccer Coaches.
- Sands was selected as a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American.
- The defender was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection and a First Team All-East Region honoree from the United Soccer Coaches.
- He was twice named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week (10/25 & 10/11).
- Sands also earned two nods to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week on 10/25 and 12/3.
- He appeared in all 22 games for the Blue & Gray with 21 starts to his credit.
- Sands had three goals and as many assists for nine points on the season.
- The junior has two game winners for the year.
- Sands is a government major with a 3.806 cumulative GPA.
Scholar All-American
- Polvara and Sands were two of just 11 first team honorees and the only winners from the BIG EAST Conference.
- Georgetown was the only school to have two people on the first team, and one of only five schools to boast multiple honorees.
- The last Hoya to win the award was Joshua Yaro who was a first team selection in 2015.
- Prior to Yaro, only two Hoyas had been recognized with the honor as Tom Greaser and Bill Bednarz earned first and third team selections during the 1997 campaign.
