WASHINGTON – Georgetown University seniors
Josiah Laney, of the men's track & field program, and
Elizabeth Nguyen, from the women's golf team, were both named 2021 PNC Student-Athlete Achiever Award winners, recognizing well-rounded student-athletes who demonstrate leadership in the classroom and in competition.
"Josiah and Elizabeth are well-rounded student-athletes who demonstrate leadership in the classroom and in competition," said PNC Bank Regional President D. Jermaine Johnson. "We congratulate both Hoyas for their commitment to their sport and to their scholastic achievement."
Josiah Laney, Sr., Men's Track & Field
- Senior in the School of Foreign Service majoring in international politics, with a 3.68 cumulative GPA of (3.8 in Fall 2020).
- Team captain and part of the leadership council formed by the team.
- Serves as a board member for Georgetown's Black Student-Athlete Coalition.
- One of the guides leading campus tours at the University.
- Previous winner of the Patrick Healy Scholarship.
- Served as a member of University's Mock Trial Team.
- Strong advocate for inclusivity and promoting diversity within and outside of the Georgetown community.
Elizabeth Nguyen, Sr., Women's Golf
- A science, tech & international affairs major in the School of Foreign Services, boasting a 3.80 cumulative GPA.
- Named a 2019 WGCA Academic All-American.
- Tied for 13th at the 2019 BIG EAST Championship after carding a three-round score of 236.
- Volunteers with the Georgetown Renewable Energy Network.
- Volunteers for the Citizens Climate Lobby, working for climate legislation, as well as a fellow for Climate Change Core Pathways at Georgetown.
- Recipient of the Boren Scholarship, funded by the US State Department, to study and work in Tanzania for 10 weeks during Summer 2019.
- President of Hoya Hive, the beekeeping club on campus.
