WASHINGTON – The No. 1 Georgetown University men's soccer team had three players honored on Monday when the BIG EAST Conference announced its weekly awards. Sophomore
Dante Polvara was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, while freshman
Chris Hegardt earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors. Additionally, senior
Rio Hope-Gund was tabbed for the Weekly Honor Roll. The Hoyas used a big second-half push to defeat the Villanova University Wildcats 3-0 in the 2021 spring season opener on Saturday.

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
- Polvara scored two of the Hoyas' three goals in a BIG EAST win on Saturday.
- His first goal came in the 61st minute, giving GU a 2-0 lead off of a corner kick as he rose above the defense to head it in.
- The second goal came six minutes later off of a penalty kick.
- It was Polvara's first-career multi-goal game.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
- Hegardt's crafty goal from the top of the box in the 43rd minute proved to be the eventual game-winner for the Hoyas in a 3-0 win over Villanova on Saturday.
- The goal came on his only shot of the outing and marks the first of his career on the Hilltop.
- The win ties the Hoyas at the top of the BIG EAST standings in this early part of the season.

Weekly Honor Roll
- Hope-Gund helped Georgetown earn a shutout win over Villanova by leading a defense that held the Wildcats to just seven shots with one on goal.
- The senior was a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection and picked 19th overall by Orlando City FC in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft.
