Hoyas Lose at No. 14/18 Loyola Maryland

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team fell 9-6 to the No. 14/16 Loyola Maryland Greyhounds Wednesday evening at the Ridley Athletic Complex. With the loss the Hoyas drop to 1-2 on the season, while the Greyhounds improve to 3-2 overall.

Head Coach Ricky Fried
  • "I thought we really took steps tonight and we showed improvement in a lot of areas. We competed hard but now we need to build on this and work to make more plays moving forward."
How it Happened
  • The Hoyas dominated the first 20 minutes of play as possession belonged to the Blue & Gray.
  • Graduate student Natalia Lynch opened the scoring at 25:38 as she went left and spun right to beat the keeper.
  • Junior Annabelle Albert added her fifth of the season on a free position goal at 17:04 before Lynch managed a second less than three minutes later when she powered her way into the middle and scored on the diving shot.
  • The Georgetown defense was the story of the first 24 minutes of the game as sophomore keeper Emily Gaven and the backline came up with huge stops to keep the Greyhound offense at bay.
  • Loyola would get on the board at 5:39 to spark a 3-0 run, however, Lynch tallied the hat trick with just 13 seconds remaining in the first period to make it 4-3 in favor of the Hoyas at the half.
  • The teams traded goals early in the second as freshman Katie Goldsmith attacked the right side and got it past Loyola keeper Kaitlyn Larsson.
  • A 2-0 Greyhound run was stopped by a free position goal from Lynch at 16:44 to tie the game at six.
  • Loyola would answer with three more as Georgetown could not find a response eventually falling 9-6.
Of Note
  • Lynch led the way with four goals, her first of the season, to go along with four ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover.
  • The four ground balls gave Lynch 116 for her career moving her into the top 25 in program history. No Hoya has moved into the top 25 since the 2011 campaign.
  • GU outshot Loyola 29-24 and forced 14 turnovers while committing 10.
  • In the cage, Gaven tallied five saves but Larsson stopped 14.
  • It marked GU's first contest against a ranked opponent this season.
