2021 Fall Football Schedule Released

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Football Head Coach Rob Sgarlata has announced the program's 2021 fall schedule, presented by MedStar Health. The Hoyas will welcome five opponents to the newly-renovated Cooper Field, including three home contests against Patriot League foes. Starting times for all 11 games will be released at a later date.

"Our players, coaches, and staff are extremely excited about our 2021 fall season," Sgarlata said. "Our first four weeks will be a great challenge as we prepare to chase the Patriot League title. We open competition with one longtime opponent in Marist and a new opponent in Delaware State. We will welcome Harvard back to D.C. to play on Cooper Field and we will return to New York City for the next installment of the Lou Little Trophy series against Columbia. These out of conference contests will prepare us for our Patriot League schedule. Currently, our players and staff are working to improve one percent each day to prepare for next fall."

The Hoyas will play their first game at the newly-renovated Cooper Field when they welcome Marist for the season opener on September 4. It will be the 23rd all-time meeting between the two programs, with GU holding a 17-5 advantage in the series. Georgetown earned a 43-3 win in last season's home opener. During last year's meeting, GU rushed for 272 yards and Herman Moultrie III was a workhorse on the day, totaling 104 yards on 20 carries.

The Blue & Gray will travel the following week (Sept. 11) for its first-ever showdown against Delaware State out of the MEAC Conference. Georgetown will then take on the first of two-straight meetings against Ivy League competition when Harvard visits the Hilltop on September 18. The two teams last met in 2017 in a game played at historic RFK Stadium.

The Lou Little Trophy will once again be up for grabs when the Hoyas visit Columbia (Sept. 25), looking for their fourth win in the last six matchups. The two programs last met in 2019 when the GU defense held Columbia's rushing attack to just 30 rushing yards and forced five turnovers. Joshua Tomas cracked 206 all-purpose yards and Moultrie scored a pair of touchdowns in the 24-10 victory.

Georgetown will open up Patriot League play with Colgate visiting Cooper Field on October 2, before making trips to Holy Cross (Oct.16) and Bucknell (Oct. 23). The Hoyas will then return to D.C. to open a two-game homestand, starting with Lafayette on October 30. In 2019, the Georgetown defense closed the door on the Leopards, led by interceptions from Delano Salgado and Ahmad Wilson, to come away with a 14-10 win at Cooper Field.

The Blue & Gray will pay tribute to the graduating class on November 6 when Fordham makes the trip to the Hilltop for GU's Senior Day game. In the last meeting against the Rams in 2019, GU put up 525 yards of total offense, the program's most ever in a Patriot League contest, and Tomas and Michael Dereus combined to be the first Hoya receiving duo to each have 100 receiving yards since 2013.

Georgetown will wrap up the season on the road, beginning with the conference finale at Lehigh on November 13. In 2019, a Dereus 72-yard touchdown reception and Joshua Stakely's 2-point conversion score tied the game with 1:23 left, but Lehigh kicked a field goal as time expired for the win. The Blue & Gray will close the season out against its Morgan State (Nov. 20) in Baltimore in what will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
