WASHINGTON – The No. 16/21 Hoyas secured their seventh clean sheet of the season and enjoyed goal contributions from three different scorers as Georgetown defeated the Seton Hall University Pirates 3-0 in South Orange, New Jersey. Sophomore
Gia Vicari tallied her sixth goal of the season in the first half, while senior
Kelly Ann Livingstone and graduate student
Kaitlyn Parcell each registered goals in the second period to cement the victory at 3-0. After the win, the Hoyas improve to 8-0, 6-0 in BIG EAST Conference play, while Seton Hall falls to 1-6 and 0-6 in conference play.
COACH NOLAN ON THE MATCH
- "Credit to Seton Hall, they didn't sit back and try to bunker, they tried to play and tried to test themselves to see if they got better from when we played them the first time––and they did. There were some moments; we dodged a bullet in the first half off of a set piece, which is always going to be a danger. Gia scored a good goal to go up 1-0. At halftime I thought we played well but didn't have the goals our play deserved. We talked about getting a second goal and we got [it] from Kaitlyn Parcell in the first couple minutes of the second half and that killed the game. It was a warm day here, we've had players who played a lot of minutes, we had some players that needed to get some playing time. At that point we made sure that we got everyone one the field which was also important to do today...this was a professional take-care-of-business game and now we have another big game coming up on Thursday at Providence and we need to go and try to get a result there."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Georgetown began the game aggressively, with sophomore Sofie Fox testing SHU's keeper with a shot just one minute into the match.
- GU continued to push for its goal in the early stages of the first half, with Fox curating another chance of her own while sophomore Julia Leas and junior Devon Lis also peppering the Pirate goalmouth with shots.
- With 28 minutes played, the Hoyas got their goal courtesy of a Jenna Menta assist; the senior played a pass into Vicari, who found the back of the net to make the game 1-0 in favor of the Blue & Gray.
- With under ten minutes to play in the first half, Livingstone forced the Seton Hall keeper into action again off a Hoya corner kick.
- Georgetown went into the half with the 1-0 advantage after a convincing first-half display.
- GU made an immediate impact once play resumed as Parcell found the back of the net 34 seconds into the half with Vicari as the provider.
- Almost 20 minutes later, the Blue & Gray would grab its third goal of the game; a Hoya corner kick led to an Livingstone shot attempt, which was first saved by the Pirate netminder but Livingstone was persistent and found the back of the net with the rebound.
- Georgetown's solid defensive unit was pivotal once again, as the squad collected another clean sheet en route to a 3-0 victory.
OF NOTE
- Menta registered her fifth assist of the season, bringing her career tally to 15 since her arrival on the Hilltop.
- Vicari tallied her sixth goal of the season and marked her return to the scoresheet since her strike against Villanova on March 11.
- Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Navarrete has yet to concede a goal this campaign.
- Georgetown earned eight corners while conceding none to SHU throughout the match.
- The Hoyas out-shot the Pirates 20-4, with 11 of those shots finding the target.
