Hoyas Fall at No. 25 Denver

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team fell 15-5 to the No. 25 Denver University Pioneers on Sunday afternoon in the second of a two-game series at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in BIG EAST Conference play, while the Pioneers improve to 6-1 overall and 4-0 in league play.

How it Happened
  • Denver scored on the opening possession, but the Hoyas came right back as graduate student Natalia Lynch took the quick assist from Bruno to tie the game at one.
  • The Pioneers added two more, but Lynch would get on the board again battling through three defenders to pull the Blue & Gray within one.
  • A 4-0 Denver run ended the first half, however, as the Hoyas went into the break trailing 7-2.
  • The Pioneers scored first in the second half, but GU answered as graduate student Michaela Bruno curled around the goal and her shot trickled in to end the drought for the Blue & Gray.
  • Denver answered, but it was Lynch with her third of the afternoon to pull GU within five.
  • At the 20:02 mark, the Pioneers would pull away with a 5-0 run.
  • A late free position goal from Bruno was answered by Denver making the final 15-5.
Of Note
  • Lynch led the way for the Hoyas with the hat trick to go along with four draw controls and a caused turnover.
  • Bruno managed two goals and one assist on the afternoon.
  • Georgetown was outshot 35-21, but held the 12-10 advantage on draw controls. The Hoya defense forced 20 turnovers.
  • In the cage, sophomore Emily Gaven tallied nine saves.

  • Georgetown will return to Cooper Field on Tuesday, April 6 as the Hoyas welcome No. 2/2 Syracuse for a 1 p.m. matchup. The game will be streamed live on HoyaVision ($) and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
