WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team dropped a 6-0 decision in the second game of its BIG EAST-opening series at the University of Connecticut on Saturday afternoon at Elliott Ballpark in Storrs, Connecticut. With the loss, the Hoyas slip to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, while the Huskies move to 16-12 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST.
The remainder of the series, the second game of Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's series finale, have been canceled due to an abundance of caution with COVID-19 concerns.
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Conor Nolan had the lone hit of the day for the Hoyas and was on base twice with a walk.
- Andrew DeRoche made his first start in a Georgetown uniform and went 3.1 innings, allowing five earned runs while striking out two.
- Carter Bosch fired two scoreless innings of relief, picking up two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UConn scored single runs in each of the first two innings, before adding two runs in both the third and the fourth innings to provide the 6-0 margin.
- The Hoyas had just three base runners with Nolan's single in the third and walk in the sixth, as well as a Matt Stone hit-by-pitch in the fifth inning
UP NEXT
The Hoyas will return home to Shirley Povich Field on Wednesday, April 14 to host Towson in a midweek, nonconference matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
