BETHESDA, Md. – The Georgetown University baseball team dropped a 4-0 decision to Towson University on Tuesday night in a midweek, nonconference matchup at Shirley Povich Field. With the loss, the Hoyas slip to 0-4, while the Tigers move to 11-21.
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Michael Eze had a pair of singles with a stolen base and was on base three times. He also added a pair of assists from right field.
- Alex Rosen was on base twice with a single and a walk.
- Everett Catlett made his first career start on the mound and fired 2.0 innings, allowing just one unearned run while striking out three.
- Nolan McCarthy pitched 3.1 innings of relief with four strikeouts while allowing just one run.
- Michael Willis and Jacob Grzebinski each had two strikeouts in scoreless appearances.
- Georgetown outhit Towson 8-7 and the GU pitching staff recorded 12 strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Towson opened the scoring in the top of the second inning, pushing across a run with two singles and an error.
- The Hoyas put two runners on base in five of the first six innings, but could not score the tying run.
- Single runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the Tigers extended their lead to 3-0. Another run in the ninth provided the final score as GU could not mount a comeback.
UP NEXT
- The Hoyas will jump back into BIG EAST play hosting St. John's this weekend in a four-game, three-day weekend series.
- The games will be played in Frederick, Maryland at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
- Friday's series opener is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, consisting of a seven-inning game followed by a nine-inning contest, beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday's series finale is also set for 1 p.m.
