WASHINGTON –
Christian Ficca had six RBIs over the two games and the Georgetown University baseball team scored six unanswered runs in game two to earn the split of a doubleheader against St. John's on Saturday in BIG EAST Conference play. St. John's won the first game 9-4 in seven innings before GU came back for the 11-7 win in the second contest. With the split, the Hoyas move to 2-5 on the season and 2-3 in BIG EAST play, while the Red Storm slip to 11-9 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
Game 1: St. John's 9, Georgetown 4 (7 innings)
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Ficca provided a bulk of the offense for GU with a three-run home run.
- Andrew Ciufo singled twice while Eddie McCabe was on base twice with a pair of walks.
- Carter Bosch started on the mound and went 2.2 innings, allowing four runs on two hits and seven walks while striking out five.
- Jack Weeks struck out five in 3.2 innings of relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Bosch struck out three batters in the first inning, St. John's opened the scoring in the top of the second on a run-scoring ground out.
- The Hoyas responded right back in the bottom half of the inning as Ciufo and Conor Nolan each singled to lead things off. Ficca then launched a three-run home run well over the right field fence for his first career homer giving GU a 3-1 lead.
- A three-run double in the top of the third gave the Red Storm a quick answer as they took a 4-3 lead.
- The score remained the same until GU loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth. Nolan Matsko came on to pinch-hit and lifted a one-out sacrifice fly to tie the game.
- St. John's came back with five runs in the top of the seventh to come away with the 9-4 win.
Game 2: Georgetown 11, St. John's 7
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Ficca again led the offense with three hits and three RBIs, while Nolan had a pair of hits.
- Michael Eze and Tony Barreca each also had three RBIs.
- Andrew DeRoche was strong on the mound for the Hoyas, going 5.0 innings and allowing just one unearned run on two hits while striking out two.
- Jae Gnazzo picked up his first win in a GU uniform firing two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. John's opened the scoring in the first inning with an unearned run behind two GU errors.
- The Hoyas came right back with two unearned runs of their own in the bottom of the first as infield singles by Nolan and Ficca produced a pair of runs.
- Ficca lined a triple over the centerfielder's head in the third inning to score Nolan and extend the lead to 3-1.
- In the fourth, AJ Lotsis delivered a two-out RBI single into right field to score Patrick DeSalvo. Michael Eze drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth to tack on another run and give GU a 5-1 lead.
- The Red Storm responded with five runs off of a pair of Hoya relievers in the top of the sixth inning to move ahead 6-5. They added another run in the seventh to go up by two.
- After a walk and stolen base by Yareb Martinez in the seventh, Barreca tied the game with his first career home run; a shot that cleared the fence in left field.
- Ficca gave the Hoyas the lead in the eighth with a single through the left side that scored Matsko who had come in to pinch run after a Ciufo double. Barreca forced home a run when he reached via catcher's interference with the bases loaded and Eze added the final insurance with a two-run triple.
- Anthony Redfern fired a scoreless ninth to preserve the 11-7 victory.

- Georgetown and St. John's will conclude their four-game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
