Hoyas Fall to UConn in Overtime

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team fell 15-14 in overtime to the University of Connecticut Huskies on Friday afternoon in the first of a two-game series at Morrone Stadium in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 6-8 overall and 5-4 in BIG EAST play, while the Huskies improve to 10-5 overall and 6-3 in league play.

Head Coach Ricky Fried
  • "We came out strong, but could not sustain our play. I am disappointed in our consistency, but am proud of the way that we fought for the last 15 minutes of the game."
How it Happened
  • The Hoyas opened the game with a quick 4-0 run over the first seven minutes of action.
  • Senior Caroline Frock started it out and she was followed by unassisted tallies from graduate students Michaela Bruno and Natalia Lynch as well as a goal from junior Annabelle Albert.
  • UConn answered back with a 4-0 run before Bruno and freshman Katie Goldsmith scored to make it 6-4.
  • A goal from senior Mary Pagano would be the lone Hoya score in a 3-1 UConn run to end the half tied at seven.
  • It was UConn that managed the 4-0 run to open the second half, but a tricky free position goal from Pagano stopped the momentum.
  • Freshman Kylie Hazen would add a goal, before Bruno managed the hat trick with an impressive goal to pull GU within one 11-10.
  • The squads traded goals over the next 10 minutes with Hazen and Albert both finding the back of net in the run of play.
  • It would be Albert again who went to her left and fired to tie the game at 14 with just over a minute to play as the teams finished regulation tied at 14.
  • In overtime, the Huskies found the golden goal as Kyra Place hit the game winner with 12 seconds remaining in the first three-minute period making the final 15-14.
Of Note
  • Albert and Bruno both managed hat tricks on the afternoon as eight different Hoyas scored a point.
  • Georgetown was outshot 42-30, but had 20 draw controls to UConn's 11.
  • The Hoya defense forced 16 turnovers.
  • In the cage, sophomore Emily Gaven managed 14 saves on the afternoon.
