Hoyas Drop Decision at UConn in Regular Season Finale

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team fell 16-12 to the University of Connecticut Huskies on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale at Morrone Stadium in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 6-9 overall and 5-5 in BIG EAST play, while the Huskies improve to 11-5 overall and 7-3 in league play.

Head Coach Ricky Fried
  • "We did not execute the fundamentals today and it showed on the scoreboard. We have an opportunity to extend our season, but need to play with more passion. We will work over the next 10 days to make this happen."
How it Happened
  • Just like Friday's matchup, the Hoyas opened the game with a quick run as junior Ali Diamond and graduate student Natalia Lynch both connected early.
  • UConn came back, however, with a 6-1 run as only Lynch was able to score over the 11-minute span.
  • Freshman Kylie Hazen and senior Caroline Frock pulled it back to a one-goal game on back-to-back scores.
  • The Huskies had one more push with a 3-1 run over the final 3:30 of the first half as only junior Annabelle Albert found the back of the cage as GU went into the break looking at a 9-6 deficit.
  • The squads traded goals early in the second after UConn started it off.
  • Graduate student Liza Liotta and Diamond both connected before a 3-0 Husky run.
  • Lynch scored her second of the afternoon at 13:04, and after a UConn tally, Albert scored another going to her left to make it 15-10.
  • Diamond would manage the hat trick on a late free position shot, but it would not be enough as GU eventually fell 16-12.
Of Note
  • Diamond led the way with the hat trick as well as an assist, while Lynch added three goals and as many draw controls.
  • Freshman Emma Driggs was almost unstoppable on the draw pulling in 14 in the contest which tied the program's single-game record set by Lynch against Johns Hopkins during the 2020 season.
  • Georgetown was outshot 28-24, but had 18 draw controls to UConn's 11.
  • The Hoya defense forced 14 turnovers.
  • In the cage, sophomore Emily Gaven managed five saves on the afternoon.
Up Next
  • There will be a third meeting of the Hoyas and Huskies as the teams open BIG EAST Championship play on May 6 at Cooper Field. Third-seeded Georgetown will battle second-seeded UConn in the semifinals. The opening draw is still TBA. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
