Montes and Hope-Gund Conclude Georgetown Careers With Weekly Awards

WASHINGTON – The No. 2/2 Georgetown University men's soccer team had two players honored on Monday when the BIG EAST Conference announced its weekly awards. Seniors Rio Hope-Gund and Jacob Montes were both honored in their final week in a Hoya uniform as both played in their last game on the Hilltop on Saturday before embarking on professional careers. They finished their careers as part of a class that has a record of 53-10-10 overall and 24-4-6 in BIG EAST play as well as 36 shutouts to its credit. The team won one BIG EAST Regular Season Championship, all three BIG EAST Tournament Championships they appeared in, earned three NCAA Tournament bids as a seeded team and, most importantly, won the 2019 National Championship.

  • Hope-Gund helped Georgetown to a 5-1 win over UConn on Saturday as the Hoyas took the lead in the East Division sitting at 6-0-2 both overall and in BIG EAST play.
  • The GU defense held UConn to just four shots on goal and five overall.
  • The game was Hope-Gund's final in a Hoya uniform as he has been called into preseason camp with Orlando City of Major League Soccer.
  • Individually, he has appeared in 44 games with 32 starts and managed two goals to go along with two assists.
  • This preseason, Hope-Gund was voted the BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year as well as All-BIG EAST.
  • Monday marked his first-career weekly award after two nods to the honor roll.
  • Earlier this year, Hope-Gund was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week.
  • This is Georgetown's fifth weekly award this season.

  • Montes had two goals and an assist in the 5-1 win over UConn in his final match with the Hoyas.
  • On Sunday, he departed for Europe for a Premier League tryout.
  • Montes started all 73 games over the past four years and managed 15 goals along with 15 assists for 45 points in his time on the Hilltop.
  • This preseason, Montes was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and selected Preseason All-BIG EAST.
  • In 2019, Montes was a Third Team All-American as a junior while also being named First Team All-East Region, the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST.
  • Montes earned two weekly awards in his time on the Hilltop as well as two honor roll selections.
  • This is Georgetown's seventh nod to the honor roll this season.
