WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team dropped a pair of BIG EAST Conference games on Friday, falling by scores of 9-0 and 2-0 at Xavier. With the losses, GU slips to 4-19 on the season and 4-15 in conference play, while the Musketeers move to 21-21 overall and 12-8 in league action.
Game 1: Xavier 9, Georgetown 0 (7 innings)
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Everett Catlett started on the mound and gave up four runs on four hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
- Anthony Redfern allowed two earned runs in 3.0 innings of relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning gave Xavier an early 2-0 lead.
- The Musketeers extended their lead to 5-0 with three runs in the third. Four runs in the sixth inning provided the final score.
Game 2: Xavier 2, Georgetown 0
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Jae Gnazzo made his first start in a Georgetown uniform and pitched 6.0 strong innings, allowing just two runs on four hits. He struck out a season-high nine.
- Angelo Tonas had three strikeouts in 2.0 scoreless innings of relief.
- Alex Rosen had two doubles and reached via a walk, while Christian Ficca was on base twice with a hit and a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Xavier scored the only runs of the game in the second inning, pushing two across the plate.
- The Hoyas had its chances, but stranded eight runners on base, including two in the eighth inning, but could not break into the run column.
UP NEXT
- Weather has forced another change into the weekend schedule as the two teams will now play a single game on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
- The Hoyas and Musketeers will play a doubleheader on Sunday, starting at noon. The second game will not count toward the BIG EAST standings.
