Hoyas Fall in Back-and-Forth Game to Butler

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – In a game that featured five lead changes, the Georgetown University baseball team came out on the short end in a 13-7 loss to Butler University on Friday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. With the setback, the Hoyas slip to 6-24 overall and 6-18 in conference play, while the Bulldogs move to 13-23 overall and 7-13 in league action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hoyas opened the scoring in the second inning, loading the bases with one out. Patrick DeSalvo laid down a perfect squeeze bunt with Ciufo breaking from third before McCabe reached on an infield single to drive in Bergeron and give GU a 2-0 lead.
  • Butler pulled within one with an RBI groundout in the top of the fourth.
  • Three-straight hits for the Bulldogs in the seventh plated two runs to give Butler a 3-2 lead.
  • An RBI single by Rosen and run-scoring ground out by Jake Hyde in the bottom half of the inning immediately gave the lead back to the Hoyas.
  • A two-out, three-run home run in the eighth put Butler back up 6-4.
  • Ciufo led off the bottom of the eighth with a triple off the centerfield fence. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, DeSalvo delivered his second squeeze bunt to score Ciufo. McCabe then reached on an infield single as Bergeron crossed the plate to tie things up at 6-6.
  • Butler pulled away with a seven-run top of the ninth, hitting a pair of home runs.
  • A Ciufo sacrifice fly in the bottom half provided the final score.

  • The two teams will conclude their series on Saturday afternoon with first pitch scheduled at 1 p.m.
