Hoyas Fall 14-3 to Virginia in NCAA Quarterfinals

Hempstead, N.Y. – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team's 2021 season came to an end with a 14-4 loss to defending national champion Virginia in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday. The Hoyas wrap up the campaign 13-3 overall, tying the program record for wins in a season, and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time in school history.

  • Connor Shellenberger led the Cavaliers with six goals and an assist while Ian Laviano added two.
  • At the 'X', Petey LaSalla won 15-of-19 (.789) faceoffs and added nine ground balls.
  • Alex Rode had eight saves for Virginia in the loss.
 
SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
  • Georgetown made the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time in program history and advanced to the quarterfinals for the 10th time, and first since 2007.
  • The Hoyas claimed a share of its first BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and won their third-straight BIG EAST Tournament Championship, the only school to do so in league history.
  • Georgetown tied the school mark for wins in a season with 13.
  • Carraway set the program record for points (282) and goals (195).
  • TJ Haley broke the single season record for assists (49).
  • James Reilly hauled in 107 ground balls on the year, third most all-time in a season and only the sixth time with more than 100.
