About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is 5-0 to start the 2021 season and is coming off of a 1-0 victory against then-No. 7/20 Maryland in front of a capacity crowd at Shaw Field last Saturday.
  • The Hoyas opened the scoring early as John Franks fed a ball to Chris Hegardt. The sophomore placed a perfect ball to the back post for a charging Stefan Stojanovic who headed it into the back of the net.
  • Georgetown outshot Maryland 21-8 marking GU's fourth 20-shot match of the season and the Blue & Gray had seven shots on goal to the Terps' one.
  • Senior goalkeeper Giannis Nikopolidis picked up the shutout in the net with one save, marking his third clean sheet of the season.
  • For his efforts against Maryland and Santa Clara in a Labor Day shutout, junior Daniel Wu was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
  • It was his first-career BIG EAST weekly award and the third for the Hoyas this season.
  • The match scheduled for Tuesday, September 14 at Temple University was postponed due to COVID-19 protocol within the Owl program. The two schools will look to reschedule the game to a later date.
  • Starting Friday, student-athletes across all BIG EAST sports will wear a "BE the Change" uniform patch during the 2021-22 athletic year.   The patch is intended to be a visual reminder of the BIG EAST's collective commitment to champion equity and racial and social justice.
