How it Happened
- Georgetown trailed 7-1 to start the match but rallied back in the opening frame to knot things up at 14-14. Trading leads down the stretch, the Hoyas used a 3-0 run to lead 23-20 before Barbosa put the frame away with a kill to win it 25-23.
- Flipping the script, the Hoyas led 5-2 early in the second set before Bellarmine evened things up. Both sides would keep it close and the Knights battled off a pair of GU set points before Smith and Peyton Wilhite's rejection on the final rally gave the Blue & Gray the 26-24 victory.
- In the fourth, the Hoyas opened on a 3-0 run before Bellarmine responded with a 7-0 outburst and led the majority of the stanza. Rallying back, Georgetown eventually tied the set at 22-22 but it wasn't enough as the Knights won three of the next four points for the 25-23 win.
- A highly competitive fourth set was a back-and-forth affair as the Hoyas led 22-18 to force a Bellarmine timeout. Coming out of the huddle, the Knights went on a 6-1 run to lead 24-23 and force a GU timeout before putting the set away on the ensuing point.
- Bellarmine started the fifth set on a 4-0 run and led 6-1 before the Hoyas pulled within a pair at 7-5. The Knights retook control from there, closing out the match on an 8-2 run including five-straight to seal the match.
