Georgetown to Continue BIG EAST Play Against Butler

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team (6-6, 0-1 BIG EAST) will face the Butler University Bulldogs (8-6, 1-2 BIG EAST) on Thursday, January 13 for a 7 p.m. matchup at Capital One Arena.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown enters the game having won three of its last five despite a 92-64 setback to Marquette to open BIG EAST play.
  • Collin Holloway led three Hoya scorers in double figures with 17 points and 7-of-8 shooting from the free throw line. The sophomore also recorded five rebounds, three assists and a block in 32 minutes of action.
  • Dante Harris added 15 points with a career-high 9-of-10 shooting from the free throw line while Aminu Mohammed recorded 12 points to round out GU's scorers in double digits.
  • As a team, the Hoyas rank just outside the nation's top 25 for 3-point efficiency, draining 38.0 percent of their shots from distance (27th).
  • The Blue & Gray has four players ranked among the BIG EAST top 20 in scoring as Mohammed leads the way with 14.6 ppg (10th), followed by Rice (13.7 ppg, 12th), Harris (13.0 ppg, 16th) and Donald Carey (12.8 ppg, 18th).
  • Carey remains one of the top free throw shooters in Division I, posting a sixth-best 93.9 percent efficiency to also pace the BE.
  • Mohammed continues to lead the BIG EAST with 8.5 rebounds per game and five total double-doubles this season while ranking third with 3.0 offensive boards per contest.
  • Georgetown boasts a 6-3 record at Capital One Arena this season with five players averaging 11 or more points per game.
 
ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
  • Butler enters Thursday's contest having dropped consecutive games to No. 24/22 Seton Hall and No. 22/24 Xavier last week.
  • As a team, the Bulldogs rank second in conference and 46th in the nation with 62.6 points allowed per game while sitting in the bottom 50 in offense (318 out of 350) with 63.4 points per contest.
  • Jayden Taylor and Bryce Golden lead Butler in scoring with 10.4 points per game while Chuck Harris adds 10.3 per contest.
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Thursday will be the 19th all-time meeting between Georgetown and Butler with the Hoyas holding a slight edge overall, 10-8.
  • GU has won two of its last three contests against the Bulldogs, including a 78-63 win at McDonough Arena on Feb. 13, 2021. Jahvon Blair and Chudier Bile led five Hoyas in double figures with 17 apiece while Jamorko Pickett added 13 and Donald Carey scored 10 of his own. GU outrebounded (38-20) and was more efficient from the floor (52.2%-39.0%) against Butler.
  • Head Coach Patrick Ewing holds an even 4-4 record against Lavall Jordan and Butler since both coaches took over in 2017.
