Hoyas Back in Action Against Marquette and DePaul This Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will return to the hardwood this weekend as the squad will play at Marquette University on Friday evening. GU will follow that up with a Sunday matinee against DePaul University. Friday's tip is set for 8 p.m. ET, while Sunday is slated to begin at 3 p.m. ET.

  • The BIG EAST Conference has announced an agreement with leading sports streaming service FloSports to become the home of the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi for the 2021-22 academic year. About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (6-4, 1-1 BIG EAST) is coming off of a one-month break including time off for final exams, the holidays as well as COVID issues among the team and opponents.
  • The Hoyas' last game was its final nonconference game of the season on December 13, when the Blue & Gray downed Coppin State 59-53 at McDonough Arena.
  • Junior Graceann Bennett led the way with 14 points and a squad-best nine rebounds to go along with three assists.
  • Sophomore Kelsey Ransom managed 13 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals.
  • Senior Jillian Archer and graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris rounded out those in double figures with 12 points apiece.
  • The Hoyas shot 41.8 percent (23-55) from the field and allowed just 27.9 percent (17-61) shooting by the Eagles.
  • Georgetown and Coppin tied with 40 rebounds apiece, and GU forced 13 Eagles turnovers.
  • It marked the third-consecutive victory for the Hoyas following a victory over Providence (55-47) and in a comeback win over George Washington (68-63).

About the Golden Eagles
  • Marquette is 10-4 on the season and 3-2 in BIG EAST Conference play.
  • The Golden Eagles are coming off of a big 88-85 overtime victory over RV/RV DePaul on Wednesday evening at the Al McGuire Center.
  • Leading the way for Marquette is Lauren Van Kleunen with 13.7 ppg to go along with a team-best 6.7 rpg.
  • She is followed by Karissa McLaughlin and Jordan King boasting 13.2 and 11.4 ppg, respectively.
  • Marquette was also plagued by pauses this season with 15 days in between games around the New Year.
Series History
  • The Hoyas are 4-22 all-time against the Golden Eagles and 1-11 on the road.
  • Last year, Georgetown dropped a pair of contests to Marquette, falling 72-40 in Milwaukee and 55-48 at home.
