Hoyas Edged by No. 11 Wildcats

WASHINGTON. – Despite a career-high 25-point afternoon from Collin Holloway, the Georgetown University men's basketball team fell, 85-74, to the No. 11 Villanova University Wildcats on Saturday afternoon at Capital One Arena. The Hoyas are 6-10 overall with a 0-5 mark in BIG EAST action while VU moves to 14-5 with a 7-2 BIG EAST record.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Holloway posted a career-high 25 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the floor, 2-of-3 from distance and 5-of-6 from the line. The Hoya forward also recorded a personal-best five assists to go along with three rebounds.
  • Donald Carey tallied his 1,000th career point before finishing with 11 points and a season-best seven helpers.
  • Dante Harris added 17 points, a squad-best six rebounds and a pair of assists while Aminu Mohammed rounded out the Hoyas in double figures with 13 points to go along with five boards, two assists and a pair of steals.
  • The Hoyas shot 44.6 percent from the floor (25-66) while hitting 94.1 percent from the charity stripe (16-17).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Holloway drained a putback and a triple to go on a personal 5-0 run to open the game for the Hoyas (18:34).
  • Georgetown kept pace with the Wildcats over the next five minutes to trail by just two, 13-11 (14:15).
  • Mohammed muscled up for an and-one before completing the three-point play and cutting the VU lead to three, 25-22 (8:08).
  • The Hoyas jumped out to an 11-4 run capped by a pair of Harris treys that pulled GU to within one, 29-28 (5:30).
  • Carey finished off eight unanswered from the Hoyas with a pair of mid-range jumpers to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau and give GU a four-point lead (1:27). The Hoyas held the 40-37 advantage at the break.
  • The Blue & Gray extended its lead to 47-39 (16:47) with Holloway scoring five of GU's first seven points of the half.
  • Villanova responded and took a one-point edge before GU scored five unanswered to reclaim its lead, 52-48 (13:54).
  • The Wildcats pulled away down the stretch, despite a triple from Carey and layups from Harris and Holloway with less than a minute to play to close the gap. The Wildcats held off the Hoyas for the 85-74 victory.
 
UP NEXT
Georgetown will hit the road to take on No. 25 UConn on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
