Gilrowski Wins Pirate Collegiate Classic as Hoyas Finish Third

WASHINGTON – Junior Gabriella Gilrowski had another record-setting performance as she won the Pirate Collegiate Classic with a 9-under 207 (68-71-68) to lead the Hoyas to a third-place finish at the tournament. Gilrowski broke her own program record for a 54-hole performance (208) that she set at the Princeton Invitational earlier this fall. The Hoyas tied for third with a three-round score of 885 (+21, 298-297-290) on the par-72, 6,072-yard course at the Greenville Country Club in Greenville, North Carolina.

ON THE RECORD
"The team had a great run today moving up in the field like we did. Our back nine put us in contention to gain a second top three finish and the team capitalized. Gabby was instrumental in our team effort and very proud of her first collegiate win. We certainly will continue working hard this off-season to set up for a great championship season run." - Head Coach Kate Schanuel

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gilrowski's 207 is the best individual 54-hole score for a Hoya, besting her own 208 at the Princeton Invitational earlier this season. It is the first tournament win since Christina Parsells' win at the 2019 Hoya Invitational. She has scored a 68 in three of her last four rounds and maintains a seven-round under-par streak [69 (-2); 70 (-1); 70 (-1); 68 (-3); 68 (-4); 71 (-1); 68 (-4)].
  • Starting on hole 10, Gilrowski managed birdies on four holes (1, 2, 6, 12) as well as an eagle on 18.
  • Megan Gormley turned in a 2-under 70 in the final round to propel herself into a tie for 10th place at 219 (+3, 76-73-70). Her 70 was fueled by a pair of birdies (holes 2 and 14) and an eagle on 5.
  • Lauren May finished in a tie for 29th place with a three-round score of 229 (+13, 75-78-76). The senior captain turned in three birdies on the day on holes 3, 14 and 18.
  • Angela Lee used a pair of birdies (holes 5 and 11) to close the day at 4-over, carding a three-round score of 230 (+14, 79-75-76).
  • Rounding out the Hoyas was Elena Zheng, who finished 59th (+48, 86-92-86=264).
