Volleyball Continues BIG EAST Road Trek

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's volleyball team remains on the road for a pair of BIG EAST matches this week, traveling to Providence on Friday and UConn on Saturday.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (4-13, 2-4 BIG EAST) is coming off a 1-1 week including a 3-1 home victory over Villanova and 3-1 setback on the road at Butler.
  • Mary Grace Goyena leads the Hoyas with 3.27 kills per set while Ruth Kayongo and Giselle Williams add 2.33 and 2.17 kps, respectively.
  • Emma Plutnicki has taken the reins of the offense the last four matches and averages 7.07 assists per set.
  • Defensively, four Hoyas average at least two digs a frame led by Karis Park with 4.06 digs per set. Plutnicki adds 2.41 dps while Jessica Cusi and Goyena are good for 2.36 and 2.14 dps, respectively
  • At the net, Chanelle Smith is good for 1.08 blocks per set while Brennan Wilhite adds 0.84 bps.
Scouting Providence
  • Friday's action at the Friars is set for 6 p.m.
  • Providence is 9-9 on the season, 1-5 in BIG EAST play, and is coming off their first BIG EAST victory with a 3-1 win over Xavier.
  • Emma Nelson leads the Friars with 2.71 kills per set while Shaliyah Rhoden adds 2.49 kps and Brielle Mullally is good for 2.39 kps.
  • Sammie Ruggles paced the offense being 6.22 aps while Mullally adds 2.93 aps.
  • Defensively, Taylor Mackenzie anchors the back row with 5.09 digs per set. Kayla Grant and Sasha Rudich are the top threats at the net averaging 0.89 and 0.88 blocks a stanza, respectively.
  • Friday's showdown is the 60th meeting all-time between the two programs with the Hoyas owning a 32-17 advantage dating back to 1981. Georgetown has won five of the last six meetings following a series split last season as each team won on its own home court.
Scouting UConn
  • Saturday's match with the Huskies is set for 3 p.m.
  • UConn is 7-10 on the season and 1-5 in BIG EAST play, also coming off of their first league win with a 3-1 victory over Xavier. The Huskies play Villanova on Friday night before welcoming the Hoyas to the Nutmeg State.
  • Caylee Parker leads UConn with 3.12 kills per set while Jasmine Davis adds 2.79 kps.
  • Madi Whitmire paces the offense with 9.48 assists a frame.
  • Defensively, Karly Berkland averages 3.91 digs per set while Kennadie Jake-Tuner's 1.03 blocks per set tops the Huskies at the net.
  • Georgetown and UConn have played 35 times dating back to 1979 with the Hoyas holding a 19-16 series advantage. The two teams have only faced each other twice since the Huskies returned to the BIG EAST, a 1-1 series split last season.

Following the week's matches, the Hoyas return to the friendly confines of McDonough Arena for a four-match homestand beginning with Xavier on Friday, October 21.
