Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 23/12 Hoyas Secure Road Win Over DePaul

WASHINGTON – The No. 23/12 Georgetown women's soccer team took down the Blue Demons 1-0 on Sunday afternoon in Chicago, Illinois. The Hoyas are now 8-1-3 overall and 4-0 in the BIG EAST as DePaul is now 0-3 in conference and 2-8 overall.

Head Coach Dave Nolan

"This was another strong performance by the girls today. Coming off a road game on Thursday at UConn against a team who had a bye meant today was always going to be hard. Credit to DePaul, their coach had them organized to frustrate us and we found it difficult to break them down. However, we asked the girls to keep doing the right thing and we responded with a corner kick goal just like we practice. What a goal by Julia Leas off a great delivery from Maya Fernandez-Powell close to the end for us to take three valuable points. This sets us up for a huge game on Thursday against a great Xavier team on Shaw Field."

About the Match

  • Georgetown boasted 13 shots to DePaul's three with seven being on frame for the Hoyas.

  • Allie Augur made one save on the afternoon with the Blue Demons only shot on goal.

  • The Blue & Gray added another 11 corners to their tally on the year with the single goal of the game coming from a corner kick opportunity.

  • Entering the half scoreless, the Hoyas battled in the second half to get chances on goal.

  • In the 79th minute, midfielder Maya Fernandez-Powell sent in a corner which senior Julia Leas knocked into the back of the net to give GU the 1-0 lead.

  • Despite the effort by DePaul, Georgetown maintained its lead and clinched the win.
