Hoyas and Huskies to Meet at Entertainment & Sports Arena Presented by ENGIE

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team has announced it will play host to the UConn Huskies at Entertainment & Sports Arena, home of the WNBA's Washington Mystics, located in Southeast, Washington, D.C. In conjunction with Events DC and presented by ENGIE, the Hoyas will host the Huskies in a BIG EAST showdown on Saturday, February 11 at 5 p.m. Tickets for the must-see matchup will be available on Ticketmaster.com the week of November 28. ENGIE and Georgetown Athletics have signed an exclusive deal to present the entire women's basketball season including the contest against the Huskies. As part of its ongoing work to promote sustainability on campus, Georgetown University joined forces with ENGIE North America (ENGIE) in 2021 to design and implement sustainable modernization projects that enhance energy efficiency and contribute to the university's environmental stewardship and climate action goals. The Georgetown Energy Partners effort will reduce campus energy-use intensity by 35% by 2031.

"In addition to driving campus sustainability forward as a part of Georgetown Energy Partners, our ENGIE team is proud to be an active part of the Georgetown University community – engaging students and faculty around campus projects and now formally supporting Hoyas on the court," shared ENGIE Senior Vice President of Major Partnerships Serdar Tufekci. "Aligned with our global ENGIE DEI commitments to elevate and enhance female leadership pathways in our own organization, we are thrilled to champion the outstanding women's basketball team as they kick off the season showcasing their talent and teamwork."

The matchup in February will be the 56th meeting between the squads and just the fourth since the Huskies rejoined the BIG EAST in 2020.  Georgetown is coached by Head Coach James Howard in his sixth season on the Hilltop. UConn is the reigning BIG EAST Champion as well as an 11-time NCAA Champion.

"We are so excited to be playing in a WNBA arena here in the District," said Howard. "After being unable to play this game last season, we can't wait to pack the arena with Hoya fans and to gain some new women's basketball supporters from a different part of the city. This is a great opportunity for us to showcase what the BIG EAST has to offer."

Entertainment & Sports Arena is where fans want to be. Opened in 2018, the 4,200-seat Arena is a hub for professional and collegiate sports, concerts, esports, boxing, and more. Entertainment & Sports Arena is home court for the WNBA Champion Washington Mystics and Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League. The Arena is also home of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Basketball Championship and the official training facility for the NBA Washington Wizards. Located on the historic St. Elizabeths Campus in DC's Congress Heights neighborhood, the Arena is located just a short 3-minute walk from the Congress Heights station on Metro's Green Line.

"Fans have been waiting for a little more than one year for this dynamic matchup between the Georgetown Hoyas and UConn Huskies at Entertainment & Sports Arena. We are honored to host these two storied programs and top-tier student athletes this February," said Ralph Morton, senior vice president and managing director, Sports and Entertainment Division at Events DC. "We welcome these world-class teams to the arena and invite their fans, alumni and our neighbors to enjoy what will surely be a memorable experience in DC's Ward 8."

Along with exciting basketball, the game will serve as a conclusion event for Georgetown's year-long celebration honoring female student-athletes on the Hilltop which dates back more than 70 years. This year, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Title IX, GU has been celebrating all female Hoyas that have worn the Blue & Gray.
