Women’s Basketball Opens the Season Against Salem

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will open the 2022-23 campaign on Monday afternoon at McDonough Arena as the Hoyas host the Salem University Tigers in a 2 p.m. matchup. On Friday, it was announced that the entire 2022-23 season will be sponsored by ENGIE which signed an exclusive deal to present the campaign.

  • Tickets can be purchased at wearegeorgetown.com/wbbtickets. Additionally, Georgetown students as well as GU faculty and staff will be admitted for free for all games at McDonough Arena with a valid GoCard.
About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown was picked in a tie with Butler to finish ninth with 21 points in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll as voted on by the league's head coaches.
  • The Hoyas lost just two starters to graduation and return a talented group battling for minutes including senior Graceann Bennett, junior Kelsey Ransom and sophomore Brianna Scott.
  • Ransom was second on the team in scoring a season ago, averaging 12.0 ppg as well as 4.0 apg. Ransom also ranked second in the league in steals per game with 2.5 to her credit.
  • Behind her was Bennett in fourth with 7.1 ppg to go along with 5.4 rpg.
  • Georgetown will play all but one of its conference home games at McDonough Arena. On Friday, it was announced that GU will partner with ENGIE and Events DC to host the February 11 game against UConn at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.
  • Along with exciting basketball, the game will serve as a conclusion event for Georgetown's year-long celebration honoring female student-athletes on the Hilltop which dates back more than 70 years.
About the Tigers
  • With a new staff, Salem will return just four players from a season ago.
  • Head Coach Jessica Peatross came to Salem in June. Peatross spent three years at Delta College, holding various roles throughout the women's basketball program.
  • The Tigers went 6-13 last season.

  • The teams met once prior as GU downed Salem a season ago 86-48 in the home opener.
  • Jillian Archer led the way with 14 points and 13 rebounds for her sixth career double-double. 
  • Kelsey Ransom added eight points to go along with a career-best 11 assists. 
  • The Hoyas shot 49.3 percent (33-67) and allowed just 18.7 percent (14-75) shooting by the Tigers. GU outrebounded Salem 73-28, which was a program record.
