Hoyas Host No. 25/24 St. John’s in New Year’s Eve Showdown

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the No. 25/24 St. John's University Red Storm on Saturday at McDonough Arena in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. The opening tip is slated for noon. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloSports with Jeremy Huber and Maren Walseth calling the action.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (8-5, 1-3 BIG EAST) had a tough 72-62 decision at Seton Hall on Wednesday evening.
  • Sophomore Ariel Jenkins led the way with a career-high 18 points to go along with a squad-best seven rebounds in the contest.
  • Senior Jada Claude and freshman Kennedy Fauntleroy were the other two Hoyas in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Junior captain Kelsey Ransom managed an all-around game with eight points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals, while Fauntleroy also had four steals in the game.
  • On Monday, Fauntleroy was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the third time in the past four weeks. Additionally, Ransom earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
  • Fauntleroy is the BIG EAST's top scoring freshman at 11.5 points per game and also ranks third among all BIG EAST players this season with her 2.5 steals per game average.
  • Ransom is leading the Hoyas in scoring and ranks 22nd in the BIG EAST with 11.7 ppg as well as team bests in assists (51) and steals (37). She also averages 6.9 rpg which leads the Blue & Gray and ranks 11th in the league, and her 2.8 spg leads the BIG EAST Conference.
About the Red Storm
  • St. John's is a perfect 12-0 on the season and 3-0 in BIG EAST Conference play.
  • The team is ranked in both national polls this week after it entered the USA Today Coaches' Poll at No. 24 on Tuesday. 
  • For the second week in a row, the Red Storm were ranked No. 25 in the Associated Press poll.
  • In its last contest, St. John's made history by notching the best start in program history, after the Red Storm moved to 12-0 with an 80-51 victory over Wagner on Dec. 21.
  • Newcomer Jayla Everett leads the squad with a team-best 16.8 ppg.

  • The Hoyas are 30-40 all-time against the Red Storm and 18-17 at home.
