Georgetown Hosts Butler on New Year's Day

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team hosts the Butler University Bulldogs on Sunday. The Hoyas (5-9, 0-3) are coming off an 83-76 setback at DePaul on Thursday night while Butler (8-6, 0-3) is coming off a 72-52 loss to Providence at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Thursday.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter Sunday's game with a 5-9 record after dropping their last contest at DePaul on Thursday.
  • Brandon Murray had a career night against DePaul scoring 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting and he went 5-of-5 from behind the arc. Murray added four rebounds and one block on the night.
  • Qudus Wahab had his fourth double-double of the season registering 13 points and a career-best 16 rebounds. Wahab also added a pair of blocks.
  • Primo Spears had a career-high 11 assists against DePaul while tacking on eight points, three rebounds and one steal.
  • Spears' 17.0 ppg leads a quartet of Hoyas averaging double figures, followed by Brandon Murray (15.8 ppg), Heath (13.4 ppg) and Wahab (11.3 ppg).

ABOUT THE BULLDOGS
  • Butler is coming off a 72-52 loss against Providence on Thursday night.
  • Manny Bates, Jalen Thomas and Chuck Harris all recorded double figures with both Bates and Thomas leading the way with 12 apiece.
  • Harris leads the Bulldogs this season averaging 13.9 ppg. Harris, a preseason BIG EAST Honorable Mention, leads Butler in scoring for the third-consecutive season.
  • Graduate student Eric Hunter Jr. averages 10.1 ppg and 3.6 rpg for the Bulldogs.
  • Bates leads the Bulldogs on the glass, pulling down 6.2 rpg.
  • Forward Simas Lukosius helps pace the offense averaging 3.6 apg.
  • Thad Matta is back for his second stint at the helm of the Bulldogs after previously serving in the role from 2000-01. Matta boasts a 439-154 all-time record as a head coach.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Sunday's matchup will be the 21st all-time dating back to 2009. The series is tied 10-10.
  • In the teams' last matchup, the Hoyas fell 56-53 in Indianapolis.
