Hoyas Travel to Syracuse Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team travels to Upstate New York to take on long time rival Syracuse. The Hoyas (5-5) are coming off a 75-68 victory over the Siena Saints while the Orange (5-4) are coming off a 95-66 win over Oakland. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. at the JMA Wireless Dome with tv coverage on ABC.

  • Saturday's matchup can be seen live on ABC with Kevin Brown calling the play-by-play and Sean Farnham providing analysis.
  • The game will be broadcasted locally on The Team 980 and nationally on Sirius XM 383 with Rich Chvotkin on the call for his 49th season.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas enter Saturday's game with a 5-5 record after defeating Siena at home on Wednesday. Four Hoyas reached double figures in the contest, with Brandon Murray contributing a team-high 20 points on 7-of-14 (50.0%) shooting including 2-of-4 from behind the arc.
  • Primo Spears remained a consistent scoring threat, scoring 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting (63.6%) while recording four rebounds, a game-best eight assists and two steals. Jay Heath added in 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting, his second game in a row in double figures, while Qudus Wahab had 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting.
  • Wahab led the Hoyas on the glass grabbing 12 rebounds, recording his second double-double of the season. The Blue & Gray outrebounded the Saints 41-38.
  • Spears' 16.7 ppg leads a quartet of Hoyas averaging double figures, followed by Murray (16.0 ppg), Jay Heath (14.5 ppg) and Wahab (10.3 ppg).
  • Akok Akok leads the team on the boards with 7.6 rpg, followed by Wahab (7.4 rpg). He is also tallying a team-leading 2.1 bpg.
  • Spears paces the offense dishing out 4.9 apg.
 
ABOUT THE ORANGE
  • Syracuse is coming off a 95-66 win over Oakland where Joseph Girard III, Jesse Edwards and Judah Mintz all registered double figures.
  • The trio of Girard III, Edwards and Mintz averages 30 minutes or more per game and all three average double figure scoring. Edwards averages 15.1 ppg, Girard III averages 14.7 ppg and Mintz averages 13.9 ppg
  • In their last outing, the Orange recorded 44 rebounds, 27 assists and 10 steals.
  • Syracuse is coming off a season that saw them go 16-17 overall and 9-11 in conference before falling to Duke in the ACC Tournament.
  • This is Head Coach Jim Boehim's 45th season at Syracuse and he has made the postseason in all but three of his seasons at the helm.
 
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Saturday's matchup will be the 98th time the two programs have met dating back to 1930.
  • The Hoyas took down the Orange last season 79-75 at Capital One Arena.
  • In the matchup, Aminu Mohammed had a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 13 rebounds. He tacked on five assists and two steals as the Hoyas grabbed the victory.
