WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.– The Georgetown University baseball team fell to the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons, 9-1, at David F. Couch Ballpark on Saturday. The Hoyas fall to 0-2 on the season while Wake Forest jumps to 2-0.
"Wake Forest did an outstanding job in all facets of the game. We had an early chance in the first inning but couldn't find a way to get one across.
Andrew Williams was a huge bright spot for us with the bases loaded and getting out of trouble.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- The Hoyas threatened in the first, loading the bases on singles from Andrew Ciufo and Cam Meyer and an Ubaldo Lopez walk, but Wake Forest held GU off the board.
- Wake Forest scored three in the second, two in the third and a trio of runs in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead.
- After Keith Savoy Jr. smacked his first career hit in the top of the fifth, Ciufo stayed hot with his second base knock of the night, an RBI single through the left side to break up the shutout (8-1).
- Carson Frye and Andrew Williams held Wake Forest off the board through a combined 2.2 innings of work, allowing just one hit and striking out four.
- Georgetown did not go down without a fight as Jake Hyde led off the ninth with a double, followed by a single from Evan Blum before Wake closed the door, 9-1.
OF NOTE
- Ciufo extended his hitting streak to five games with his base knock in the first, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Meyer logged his first multi-hit game with the Hoyas, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
