WASHINGTON – Georgetown softball competed in UMBC's Round Robin on Saturday and Sunday in Baltimore, Maryland. The Hoyas went 3-1 on the weekend, beating Coppin State twice (7-0 and 7-5, respectively) and UMBC once (13-6). The Blue & Gray's only loss came from UMBC, 6-2. The squad rises to 7-7 on the season as UMBC moves to 4-4, and Coppin State falls to 0-5.
Highlights for the Hoyas
vs. UMBC - Saturday
- Georgetown got the weekend rolling against UMBC on Saturday as the squad put up 11 hits for 13 runs to the Retriver's seven hits and six runs.
- The Hoyas put up seven runs in the third (10-3) and added three more runs to close the game out 13-6.
- Kayla Dunn went 1-0 from the circle getting the win.
- Abby Smith, Savannah Jones (2), Cameron Kondo (2),and Mae Forshey all recorded home runs against the Retrievers.
vs. Coppin State - Saturday
- Georgetown earned its runs early in the game with the game-winner going to Forshey hitting her second home run in the first to bring in two runs (2-0). This was Forshey's second home run of the weekend.
- Cameron Kondo hit a two-RBI home run in the second and two more Hoyas would cross the plate by the end of the third to bring the Hoyas to their final score, 7-0.
vs. UMBC - Sunday
- UMBC went up 5-0 over the Hoyas by the end of the fourth, but Kondo rebutted with her third home run of the round robin making it 5-1.
- Smith had a late chance to help the Hoyas with a homer to left field, but it was not enough to level the score, ending the game 6-2.
vs. Coppin State - Sunday
- Smith added to her home run count with another homer to left field in the second.
- Alyssa Chavez had a two-RBI home run down center field.
- Jones followed in the fifth with her third homer of the weekend to make it 5-2 for the Hoyas.
- Georgetown crossed the plate two more times to earn the victory (7-5).
- Jordan Tallman took the win for the Hoyas from the circle.
