Hoyas Welcome No. 15/15 Providence on Sunday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team (6-14, 0-9 BIG EAST) will welcome the No. 15 Providence College Friars (19-2, 9-1 BIG EAST) to Capital One Arena on Sunday, February 6. Tipoff is scheduled for noon.

  • Sunday's game will be broadcast live on FS1 with Eric Collins calling the play-by-play and Stephen Bardo providing analysis.
  • The game can be heard locally on 106.7 The Fan, SiriusXM 381 and Radio.com with Rich Chvotkin in his 48th season on the call.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Donald Carey recorded a career-high 23 points against St. John's, shooting 7-of-14 from the floor, 6-for-7 from the line and hitting three triples. The Hoya captain also registered seven boards, two assists and a pair of steals.
  • Kaiden Rice added 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting, 5-of-10 from distance and a perfect 3-for-3 from the charity stripe while Dante Harris posted a near double-double with 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds to go along with four assists.
  • The Blue & Gray has four players averaging in double figures: Carey (13.7 ppg), Aminu Mohammed (13.4 ppg), Rice (12.8 ppg) and Harris (12.1 ppg).
  • As a team, GU leads the BE shooting 37.2 percent from distance while its 8.2 triples/game rank third.
  • Carey has registered nine-straight games in double figures, averaging 15.1 ppg on 48.2 percent shooting from the floor (46-95) and 46.3 percent from distance (25-54) over that span.
  • Rice is averaging 3.7 treys/game to lead the BE (7th - NCAA).
  • In BE play, Carey is averaging 15.3 ppg, followed by Mohammed (11.8 ppg), Harris (11.1 ppg) and Rice (11.0 ppg).
 
ABOUT THE FRIARS
  • No. 15 Providence enters Sunday's contest having won six straight, including three-consecutive victories by four points or less.
  • Aljami Durham and Nate Watson pace four players in double figures with 13.7 and 13.6 ppg, respectively.
  • In conference play, PC is shooting a BE second-best 36.3 percent from distance while Durham and Justin Minaya are going 1-2 averaging 35.8 and 35.7 minutes per game, respectively.
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Sunday will be the 79th all-time meeting between GU and Providence with the Hoyas holding a 47-31 edge overall.
  • In their lone matchup this season, Georgetown fell short 83-75 in its comeback effort despite a 21-point showing from Carey and 13 made triples as a team. The Hoyas also forced more turnovers (12-10) and outscored PC off the miscues (20-12).
  • Head Coach Patrick Ewing is 3-5 against Providence as GU's head coach and went 9-1 against the Friars as a player.
  • Rich Chvotkin, voice of the Hoyas since 1974, will be calling his 1500th game on Sunday against the Friars.
Beginning his tenure with the Hoyas on November 30, 1974, Chvotkin's career has included 40 years of postseason broadcasts and his coverage of NCAA Tournaments spans six decades. Chvotkin was inducted into the Washington Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.
