Football Welcomes 13 Signees on National Signing Day

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Head Football Coach Rob Sgarlata has announced the signing of 13 players to National Letters of Intent to the incoming class of 2022 during college football's National Signing Day. The 13 student-athletes will come to the Hilltop as members of Georgetown's Class of 2026 and will join the Hoyas for the fall 2022 season.

"The way you do anything is the way you do everything. We are extremely excited to welcome this group of 13 student-athletes to the Hoya Football Family.  They have excelled both on the field and in the classroom throughout their high school careers. Georgetown is the perfect place to help them become the best version of themselves as they start their 4 for 40 journey. This group represents the culmination of countless hours of research and dedication by our coaches, staff and current student-athletes. I am grateful to our entire Football Family for their efforts to continue to bring the best and the brightest to the Hilltop." - Sgarlata on the incoming class of 2022

The newest members in this year's incoming class are joined by 11 members that committed during the early signing day in December 2021, rounding out the class with 24 players.

The 24 newcomers hail from 16 different states across the country. Overall, the group includes 12 offensive players and 12 on defense.

MADUX BORRELLI - LINEBACKER
  • The Branson, Missouri native attended Lake Nona High School.
  • He was named Linebacker of the Year and Defensive MVP in his senior season with a team-leading 132 tackles, 24 of which went for a loss.
  • The Hoya newcomer also recorded eight sacks and forced three fumbles in 11 games last year.
  • Borrelli wrestled in high school, winning two state titles and a national title. He also competed in swimming and track & field.

"Borrelli is a big, tough athlete that brings explosive play-making ability along with length to the inside linebacker position."

JAIDEN BROWN - LINEBACKER
  • The Lakewood, New Jersey native attended Southern Regional High School.
  • Brown is a three-time honoree in the following (2019-21): Emmert-Boyd game participant, team MVP, offensive division MVP, All-Shore Team selection, All-State team selection and division champion.
  • The Hoya newcomer is the Southern Regional's all-time leading rusher with 4,465 yards and the first three-time 1,000-yard rusher.
  • Brown also competed in track & field, earning a Group IV Spring shot put title and team state championship.

"Brown is a prototype modern linebacker who is explosive, athletic, and can make plays all over the field."

JADEN DUGGER - DEFENSIVE BACK
  • The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native attended Penn Hills High School.
  • Dugger earned an All-Conference selection in 2020 and 2021.
  • He is also a two-sport athlete, playing football and basketball.

"Dugger is a talented recruit who we are very excited about. He is a highly competitive multi-sport athlete with outstanding production on both sides of the ball. We project him as a safety and are eager to work with his unique combination of length, athleticism and ball skills. We have high hopes for Jaden and look forward to his arrival."

ANDRES FRANQUEZ - DEFENSIVE END
  • The Newnan, Georgia native attended Northgate High School.
  • The two-time team captain scored 21 tackles and a sack in his 2021 campaign.

"Franquez is a big, long athlete with tremendous upside. Franquez has a great ability to use his length and hands to get off blocks to disrupt the run game and create havoc. His length also poses an opponent offensive line's problems in generating a pass rush."

MASON GUDGER - RUNNING BACK
  • The Tennessee native attended Greeneville High School.
  • Gudger is a two-time all-state selection and was named a 2021 Tennessee Titans "Mr. Football" Finalist.
  • The Hoya newcomer helped Greeneville to a 2018 TSSAA BlueCross Bowl Championship.
  • He racked up 5,205 all-purpose yards and logged 71 total touchdowns.

"Gudger demonstrates a proven ability to score from anywhere on the field. His combination of speed, strength and ability to cut make him a weapon in both the inside run game as well the perimeter game. His skill set includes the talent to produce valuable yards on 'check down' throws as well."

DRAKE HAMLIN - OFFENSIVE LINEMAN
  • The Raleigh, North Carolina native attended Ravenscroft School.
  • Hamlin received an all-state selection in 2021 following back-to-back all-conference nods (2020, 2021).
  • GU's newest protector also plays lacrosse and will be a captain for his final season at Ravenscroft.

"Hamlin is an extremely athletic offensive lineman with a high upside. We love the mean streak and attitude he plays with."

LOSINI MAKA - OFFENSIVE/DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
  • The Honolulu, Hawaii native most recently played for the Blair Academy in New Jersey.
  • Maka earned an All-MAPL First Defensive Team selection in his final season.
  • With Kahuku High School, the newest Hoya picked up back-to-back Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) Championships (2018, 2019).
  • Maka is a two-sport athlete, also competing on the mat as a wrestler.

"Maka is a powerful interior offensive lineman who loves contact. He plays with a great motor and attitude."

MAX MCCORMICK - TIGHT END
  • The Boston, Massachusetts native attended the Taft School.
  • McCormick scored the game-tying touchdown with 50 seconds left in Taft's rivalry game with Hotchkiss.
  • He is a four-sport athlete, competing in football, lacrosse, basketball and track & field.

"McCormick is big enough to help set an edge in the run game but has the athleticism to be a detached wide receiver in any formation in the Hoya system. The term 'big athlete' applies readily to Max and his toolbox of talents. We count on Max to develop into a great point of attack blocker and be a daunting threat as a pass receiver.

NAITEITEI MOSE - LINEBACKER
  • The Euless, Texas native attended Trinity High School
  • He was a three-time 6A All-District First Team and Academic All-District selection (2019-2021) to go along with Co-Defensive MVP (2021) and Defensive Newcomer of the Year (2019).
  • Mose also competed in the shot put and discus for track & field at Trinity.

"Mose is a twitchy and explosive linebacker who has a great ability to disrupt offenses in the offensive backfield. Mose has the ability to cover space quickly and secure open-field tackles. We look forward to seeing how Mose will continue to develop and become a problem for opposing offenses."

CONOR O'NEIL - TIGHT END
  • The New York native attended Bronxville High School.
  • In his senior season (2021), O'Neil captured Section 1 Class B Offensive Player of the Year honors to go along with the following selections: all-county first team, all-league first team and all-state second team.
  • The new Hoya posted a dominant final campaign with 1,101 rushing yards on 110 carries and 16 touchdowns while adding 743 passing yards and six scores through the air.

"O'Neil's speed and explosive big-play capabilities make him the ideal player for our Hybrid/'move' tight end position. He possesses a combination of great athleticism and body control that will create key matchup dilemmas for any defense."

MANSFIELD OWSLEY - OFFENSIVE LINEMAN
  • The Los Angeles, California native attended the Suffield Academy.
  • He was named to the TD Club of Houston Private Schools Preseason Team and Lineman of the Year finalist in 2021 to go along with Vype Houston Lineman of the Year Runner-Up honors.
  • Owsley is a three-sport athlete, playing basketball and throwing the shot put in track & field.

"Owsley is a big athlete that we are very excited about. With his frame and ability to move, he will develop into a great offensive lineman in our league."

MATTHEW PLUNKETT - LINEBACKER
  • The New York native attended the McCallie School in Tennessee.
  • Plunkett is a three-time TSSAA Division II-AAA State Championship, including an undefeated 2021 state championship run.
  • During his junior season, the Hoya newcomer recorded 11 sacks, 25 tackles for loss and hurried the quarterback on 28 occasions.

"Plunkett is a tall, physical and strong linebacker that comes from a great high school program. He has a knack for disrupting opposing offenses in the backfield hurrying the quarterback. We are very excited for Plunkett to use his unique skill sets upon his arrival."

TREVOR SWAN - OFFENSIVE LINEMAN
  • The Mesa, Arizona native attended Perry High School.
  • Swan earned an All-Region Second Team and All-CUSD honorable mention selection in his senior year (2021).
  • He is a three-sport athlete, serving time on the basketball court and the wrestling mat.

"Swan is a big strong kid that we are very excited about. He has all the intangibles to be a dominant offensive lineman in the Patriot League."
