WASHINGTON – Georgetown Track & Field runners
Melissa Riggins and
Matthew Payamps earn Georgetown's first track honors of the year as they are named Men's and Women's Track Athletes of the Week by the BIG EAST on Wednesday afternoon.
Men's Track Athletes of the Week Matthew Payamps
- Junior Payamps ran a sub-four mile at the Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday with a time of 3:55.53.
- Payamps' athletic display broke a 40-year record for Georgetown in the mile which had been held by Olympic runner John Gregorek since 1982.
- Payamps is now ranked first in the BIG EAST and fourth in the NCAA.
Women's Track Athletes of the Week Melissa Riggins
- Freshman Riggins competed at the Scarlet & White Invitational at Boston University this past weekend where she ran in the 800-meter run finishing in second place with a time of 2:05.93.
- The Wexford, Pennsylvania native's time in the 800-meter run pushes her to first in the BIG EAST and 24th fastest in the NCAA.
- This is only Riggins second outing of her collegiate career. She placed third in the 1,000-meter run at the Hokie Invitational last week with a time of 2:43.85.
