Georgetown Downs George Washington 19-3

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team picked up the 19-3 victory against the George Washington University Colonials on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field in a nonconference matchup. With the win the Hoyas improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Colonials drop to 1-5 on the year.

Head Coach Ricky Fried
  • I thought we played fast and our ride really helped us create opportunities on the offensive end of the field. I was proud of the effort we gave for all 60 minutes and was happy that everyone had a chance to contribute to the team win.
How it Happened
  • Senior Annabelle Albert started the scoring getting the goal within the first minute of action. However, the Colonials answered right back to tie the game at two.
  • Senior Jordyn Sabourin tallied her first of the game less than two minutes later followed by a score from sophomore Kylie Hazen before GW found the back of the net to make it 3-2.
  • Sabourin's second of the game sparked a 5-0 Hoya run spanning two quarters as GU pulled ahead 8-2.
  • The Colonials would stop the run, but goals from sophomore Tatum Geist, freshman Maley Starr and graduate student Mary Pagano made it 11-3 at the half.
  • Following a sloppy start to the second half, the Hoyas regrouped and managed an 8-0 run over the next two periods.
  • The run was sparked by a goal from graduate student Erin Bakes at 9:45. This was followed by scored from senior Ali Diamond, Pagano and senior Celia Walsh at the buzzer to end the third.
  • The Hoyas added four in the final stanza with goals from sophomores Neely Holt, Tessa Brookes, Kylie Hazen and Lauren Lisauskas making the final 19-3.

Of Note
  • Pagano led the way with the hat trick on the day to lead the Blue & Gray.
  • Five additional players had two goals apiece.
  • LizaBanks Campagna led GU at the circle with nine draw controls, while Sabourin added three.
  • Sophomore Melissa Massimino was solid on defense with three caused turnovers to her credit.
  • Emily Gaven took the win in goal with five saves for the Hoyas.
  • Georgetown outshot the Colonials 42-16 and also held the 18-7 advantage on the draw.
  • In total, GU closed out the game with an 11-0 run.
