Hoyas Fall to No. 20 Johns Hopkins

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team fell 16-10 to the No. 20 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays at Homewood Field on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss the Hoyas fall to 1-2, while the Blue Jays improve to 3-1.
 

How it Happened

  • The Blue Jays opened the game on a 5-0 run until the Hoyas gained some momentum with back-to-back goals by Tatum Geist and Jordyn Sabourin. The first quarter ultimately ended in favor of the Blue Jays by a score of 7-2.

  • The second quarter began with two unanswered goals by the Blue Jays to make the score 9-2. Goalkeeper Emily Gaven had a big save on a point blank shot by the Blue Jays which gave the ball back to Georgetown. The save by Gaven then set up the Hoyas for Ali Diamond to get on the board with a free-position goal for her fifth goal of the season. Johns Hopkins continued on with two more goals to make the score 11-3 at the break.

  • After halftime, Johns Hopkins opened the second half with two quick goals but were immediately followed by three unanswered goals from Kylie Hazen and Annabelle Albert. The Hoyas would close the gap to a seven goal deficit at 6-13 to enter the fourth. 

  • Diamond scored an early goal in the 4th quarter to stretch the Hoyas run to four unanswered goals. The Blue Jays were able to stop the run by finding the back of the net on a man up goal at the 11:03 mark. The Hoyas would outscore the Blue Jays 4-3 in the fourth quarter but ultimately fell by a final score of 16-10
     

Of Note

  • Diamond was able to record a second consecutive hat trick in the loss at Johns Hopkins. 

  • Hazen and Albert both recorded two goals on the day. 

  • Both Ellie Kiernan and Nicole Massimino were able to tally two caused turnovers as the Hoyas led 9-6 in total caused turnovers.

  • GU outshot Johns Hopkins 27-25 but trailed in total assists 5-1.
