Georgetown Takes Down Delaware in Commanding 16-6 Victory

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team cruised to the 16-6 victory against the University of Delaware Blue Hens on Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field. With the win the Hoyas improve to 2-2, while the Blue Hens move to 1-4.

 

How it Happened

  • The Hoyas opened the scoring with quick goals from Kylie Hazen and Mary Pagano to take a 2-0 lead. Although the Blue Hens were able to score two goals the Hoyas controlled the opening quarter by scoring a total of six goals to make the score 6-2.

  • The second quarter began with a goal from Jordyn Sabourin to secure her first hat-trick of the season. Sabourin then scored a second consecutive goal to make the score 8-2 to extend the Hoyas scoring run to five. The Blue & Gray defense was able to shutout the Blue Hens in the second quarter making the score 11-2 at the break.

  • Six different Hoyas were able to find the back of the net in the first half.

  • The third quarter started with a goal from senior captain Celia Walsh which was her first goal of the season. Hazen, Emma Gebhardt and Mary Pagano were all able to tally goals in the third quarter to extend the Hoyas lead to 15-4 entering the fourth. 

  • In the final quarter, the Blue Hens were able to score two more goals but it was not enough to erase the deficit. Georgetown would hold on for the 16-6 win.

Of Note

  • Sabourin was able to start the day with a perfect shooting percentage as she scored four goals on her first four shots. 

  • Melissa Massimino was able to record four ground balls, four caused turnovers and a draw control.

  • GU outshot Delaware 35-20 and forced 21 turnovers.

  • Georgetown held the 14-11 advantage in draw controls, as LizaBanks Campagna pulled in eight and Emma Driggs tallied four.

  • In the cage, Emily Gaven tallied nine saves on a .643 save percentage in the win.
