Hyde Plates Career-High Seven Runs, Hoyas Stunned Against Delaware

WASHINGTON – Sophomore Jake Hyde dazzled with a career-high seven RBIs on Wednesday evening, falling one shy of tying the program record (8) in the Georgetown University baseball team's 9-8 setback against Delaware on the road. The Hoyas fell to 12-7 while the Blue Hens jumped to 10-8.

"The University of Delaware has a great program over there and hats off to them. Jake Hyde was special tonight with two home runs and seven RBIs. I thought Collin Garner gave us a great start, going five innings, and Nick Borek gave us a shot there at the end in the seventh and eighth. Really proud of those three tonight." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson on today's game

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jake Hyde went 2-for-4 on the afternoon with a grand slam and a three-run homer. His seven RBIs fell one short of tying Ron Cano's mark of eight set in 2002 against Wofford. With his round-tripper in the fourth, the Hoyas have logged five grand slams this season.
  • Christian Ficca, Peter Marren, Ubaldo Lopez and Ethan Stern all recorded a hit in tonight's contest.
  • With his hit, Stern also saw his reached base safely streak improve to 20 games.
  • Lopez scored a pair of runs while Owen Carapellotti, Andrew Ciufo, Adam Dapkewicz and Michael Eze all crossed once. Eze also registered the lone RBI not credited to Hyde.
  • Nick Borek tossed two hitless innings of relief, keeping the Blue Hens off the board in the seventh and eighth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Georgetown fell behind early as Delaware put two runs on the board in the opening frame, followed by a one-run third to go up by three (3-0).
  • The Hoyas stormed back in the top of the fourth with a five spot on the board. After Michael Eze worked a bases-loaded walk (3-1), Hyde turned on an inside pitch for a grand slam and put GU ahead by two (5-3).
  • Following a blank fifth, the Blue Hens responded with four runs in the  bottom of the sixth to reclaim a 7-5 lead.
  • In the top of the eighth, Hyde struck once again, this time with a three-run shot to put the Blue & Gray back on top by one, (8-7).
  • Delaware shocked Georgetown in the ninth, hitting a walk-off two-run homer to end the game, 9-8.
