Baseball Falls 11-7 to George Washington

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Georgetown University baseball team saw its three-game winning streak snapped as the Hoyas fell to George Washington 11-7 on Wednesday at Barcroft Park. GU falls to 15-9 on the year while the Colonials jump to 11-13.

"Credit goes to George Washington today as their bullpen kept our bats quiet in the last four innings. We had quality hits from Jake Hyde and Ethan Stern early on and Collin Garner gave a solid start but they did a good job getting strikes and timely hits." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson on today's game

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jake Hyde recorded his BIG EAST-leading 11th home run of the season with a two-run dinger.
  • Ethan Stern logged his sixth homer of the year with a two-run shot in the second, finishing 2-for-4 at the dish. The Hoya second baseman is also one run away from reaching 100 for his career.
  • Adam Dapkewicz also posted a 2-for-4 outing in Arlington, adding an RBI and a run scored to his final line.
  • Collin Garner put forth a quality start, going six innings, allowing just two earned runs and striking out five.
  • Christian Ficca and Owen Carapellotti each registered one hit in Wednesday's contest while Carapellotti, Andrew Bergeron and Peter Marren scored one run apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a blank first inning, the Hoyas worked back-to-back singles from Carapellotti and Dapkewicz in the second. Eze dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners over, but GW threw the ball away and allowed both runners to score (2-0).
  • Hyde and Stern capped off the six-run second frame with both launching two-run home runs (6-0).
  • GW broke through in the fourth with one run to cut the Hoya lead to five (6-1).
  • Dapkewicz drove an RBI single through the left side in the top of the fifth to reclaim a six-run lead (7-1).
  • The Colonials stormed back in the final four innings, scoring at least one run in each frame to take a 9-7 lead before knocking off the Hoyas in the ninth.
