Hoyas Fall to No. 9 Greyhounds

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team suffered a tough 16-6 loss to the No. 9 Loyola Maryland Greyhounds on Wednesday evening at Cooper Field in a nonconference matchup. With the loss the Hoyas drop to 2-3 on the season, while the Greyhounds improve to 5-0.

How it Happened
  • Loyola opened the scoring with back-to-back scores before graduate student Mary Pagano curled to her left and fired to make it 2-1.
  • The Hoya defense stood strong until late in the half when the Greyhounds managed a 5-0 run over the final 2:30 to make it 7-1 at the end of the first.
  • Loyola would add three more in the second before senior Ali Diamond came from behind the goal and scored.
  • The Greyhounds added two more to make it 12-2 at the half.
  • Georgetown would score right out of the gate in the third when senior Jordyn Sabourin took the pass from freshman Emma Gebhardt. Sabourin was right in front of the net and buried it for the goal.
  • Loyola answered right back, but it was sophomore Tatum Geist who split the defense and scored.
  • The 'Hounds would score one more and lead 14-4 at the end of the third stanza.
  • Diamond began the fourth with almost an identical goal to her previous score, but Loyola got the draw and scored to keep the 10-point advantage.
  • A pair of Loyola goals sandwiched Geist's second of the day as the Hoyas fell 16-6.
Of Note 
  • Diamond and Geist both recorded two goals on the day to lead the Blue & Gray.
  • LizaBanks Campagna led GU at the circle with seven draw controls, while sophomore Kylie Hazen pulled in four.
  • Olivia Buckman was solid on defense with three caused turnovers to her credit.
  • Emily Gaven took the loss in goal with five saves for the Hoyas.
  • Loyola outshot the Blue & Gray 29-24 and the teams tied in draw controls with 13 apiece.
