WASHINGTON - Left fielder
Ubaldo Lopez smacked two home runs to pull within one of tying Georgetown's single-season record in the team's 20th win of the season, knocking off UMBC 10-2 at Alumni Field on Tuesday night. GU moved to 20-13 overall while the Retrievers fell to 13-18 on the year.
"A total team effort today. We came out and
Collin Garner gave us a great start while our bullpen was awesome.
Ayden Head came on in a very critical spot with the bases loaded and shut down any momentum they had. We had a great offensive approach with two homers by Lopez and three hits from
Christian Ficca and took advantage of free bases. It was a great way to win our 20th game of the season." - Head Coach
Edwin Thompson on tonight's win

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a blank first inning, UMBC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly.
- Both teams were held off the board until the Retrievers put up another run in the fourth (2-0).
- The Hoyas responded in the top of the fifth with a three-spot. Ficca drove an RBI single up the middle before Barreca was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game at 2. With nowhere to put him, Owen Carapellotti walked on four pitches in the ensuing at-bat and brought Ficca in from third to take a 3-2 lead.
- Georgetown added two more on a Retriever miscue in the sixth before Barreca was hit by another pitch with the bases loaded and Keith Savoy Jr. worked a walk two batters later to go up 7-2.
- Lopez launched a two-run shot to left in the seventh and expanded the Hoya lead to seven (9-2) before drilling a solo shot in the top of the ninth for his second of the game (10-2).
- Tonas came on in the ninth and shut the door for the team's 20th victory of the year.
