WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team defeated the Villanova Wildcats 13-11 to seal the first BIG EAST conference win of the season. With the win the Hoyas improve to 6-6, while the Wildcats fall to 4-8.
How it Happened

The Hoyas opened the game by scoring first off of an Erin Bakes free-position goal at the 13:17 mark. Villanova would go on to score three-consecutive goals until Bakes would score her second goal of the quarter, and Ali Diamond would also find the back of the net.

The second quarter began with a quick Wildcat goal to set the score at 4-3 at the 14:13 mark. The Wildcats would go on to score three-consecutive goals to stretch the scoring run to 4-0.

Emma Gebhardt would find the back of the net at the 6:41 mark to end the Hoyas' scoring drought. Lily Tardif would then score a quick goal to put the score at 7-5 in favor of the Wildcats. Following a Villanova goal, Bakes would score her third goal of the day to secure a hat trick in the first half.

The Hoyas would start the second half strong as they went on a 4-0 scoring run that saw goals from Bakes, Diamond, Gebhardt and Tatum Geist. Villanova would add two more goals to put the score at an even 10-10 going into the fourth quarter.

Geist started the fourth quarter strong for the Hoyas by scoring a quick goal, but Villanova would answer to tie the game at 11-11. The remainder of the fourth quarter saw very strong defensive efforts from both teams until Kylie Hazen was able to break the tie and find the back of the net at the 8:36 mark.

Hazen would then go on to score another goal at the 7:18 mark which would ultimately seal the Hoyas 13-11 victory.

Bakes was able to record four goals on the day, while Diamond, Gebhardt, Geist and Hazen all recorded multiple goals.

Diamond tallied four points on two goals and two assists.

LizaBanks Campagna was able to record four draw controls in the contest, and Ellie Kiernan was able to cause two turnovers.

GU outshot Villanova 27-23 but trailed 18-9 in draw controls.
