Georgetown Women’s Golf Takes Second at BIG EAST Championships

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's golf team finished second at the 2022 BIG EAST Championships Presented by JEEP at the Callaway Resort and Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. The Hoyas carded rounds of 302, 289 and 301 for a 54-hole total of 892 on the par-72, 6,182-yard Mountain View Course.

ON THE RECORD
"This week was a huge success for us. We rose to the challenge and delivered, which made for an exciting tournament from start to finish. Everyone contributed working to stay in contention. We will take this week and build on it for next year." - Head Coach Kate Schanuel on the team's performance

"Megan never faltered this week, playing her best golf yet over the three rounds and on the biggest stage at the BIG EAST Championship. She set herself up for a successful run at the title and helped the team to a second-place finish." - Schanuel on Gormley

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Megan Gormley was the top finisher for the Hoyas with a 2-under par 214 as she carded 72, 69 and 73. Her three-day total put her in sole possession of fourth place overall.
  • Esther Park and Kaitlyn Lees both tied for 10th place overall with matching scores of 10-over par 226. Park and Lees were both strong on day two with the duo carding a 73 in the second round.
  • Gabriella Gilrowski finished 13th overall with a three-round score of 12-over par 228. Her best round, as it was for all of her teammates, was the second round as she shot a 2-over par 74.
  • Lauren May rounded out the Blue & Gray as she carded a 14-over par 230 just two strokes behind her teammate and good enough for tie for 15th. With May's efforts, the Hoyas were the only team with all five competitors among the top 15 and even 20.
  • The Hoyas inked themselves into the record book as the 289 in round two is third on the list for lowest team round score for a 54-hole event and the best in program history at BIG EAST.
  • Gormley's 214 is tied for second for an individual in a 54-hole event and is also a program best at a BIG EAST Championship.

OVERALL TEAM RESULTS
  • 1. Xavier (+14, 878); 2. Georgetown (+28, 892); 3. Seton Hall (+38, 902); 4. Creighton (+39, 903); 5. Butler (+55, 919); 6. St. John's (+61. 925)
  • The Hoyas were in third place after the first round but surged past then-second Creighton following the second round. The squad held on to second place through the final day of competition.
