WALDORF, Md. - Despite graduate student
Ubaldo Lopez smashing the program's single-season home run record with his 16th of the season, the Hoyas dropped Sunday's contest 8-7 to Xavier. GU fell to 23-17 overall with a 5-7 BIG EAST record while the Musketeers moved to 21-20 with a 5-4 conference record.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- Lopez surpassed Glen Bruckner (1987) and Jake Hyde (2022) for the program's single-season record with his 16th home run of the year. The Hoya left fielder finished the game with a pair of RBIs.
- Barreca put forth a 2-for-4 day at the dish with two RBIs and two runs scored.
- Jake Hyde also registered two hits to go along with an RBI and a tally.
- Christian Ficca and Cam Meyer rounded out those with multiple hits, recording two apiece.
- Sapienza put forth a quality start for the Hoyas, going six innings and striking out a career-high seven Musketeers.
- Connor Udell also tossed a perfect two frames out of the pen with one punchout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hoyas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first behind an RBI fielder's choice from Lopez and Ficca's one-run single to right.
- After Xavier put one run on the board in the top of the second, Georgetown responded with two more in the home half. Barreca drove in a run on a groundout to short before Hyde laced an RBI single behind the second baseman, lifting GU to a 4-1 edge.
- Lopez delivered his record-breaking dinger in the fifth on a 1-1 pitch, sending it to deep left center for a 5-1 lead.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Barreca smacked an RBI single through the right side to bump the advantage to five (6-1).
- Xavier stormed back and took the lead in the seventh with a seven-run frame to go up 8-6.
- The Hoyas did not go down quietly, scoring one tally in the ninth on an Ethan Stern single up the middle before Xavier closed the door 8-7.
