Nine Hoya Hurlers Stifle George Washington in 3-1 Victory

WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University baseball team toppled George Washington 3-1 behind nine pitchers holding the opposition to four combined hits at Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy on Tuesday evening. GU jumped to 24-17 overall while the Colonials dropped to 19-21 on the season.

"First, I want to thank our students and fans for coming out tonight. We really felt their energy. Our game started and ended with our pitching staff and everyone did their job. Jake Hyde and Evan Blum provided the offense we needed and we played good defense. We're looking forward to carrying it over to this weekend." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson on today's game.

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Colonials scored one in the top of the second to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • Following a leadoff single by Barreca in the third, Hyde launched a two-run shot to right center, giving the Hoyas a 2-1 edge.
  • Through five innings of work, the Hoya staff managed seven strikeouts and allowed just three total baserunners to keep GW off balance.
  • Blum drove a single through the right side in the fifth, boosting the GU lead to two (3-1).
  • George Washington never found its footing against the Hoyas, failing to move a runner past second base through the final four frames. Head came on in the ninth to close the door for his second save of the season.
