Hoyas Post Back-to-Back Shutouts With 9-0 Win Over Seton Hall

BOWIE, Md. - The Georgetown University baseball team blanked Seton Hall for the second-straight game with its 9-0 victory at Prince George's Stadium on Saturday, marking the first time in program history it has posted back-to-back shutouts against a BIG EAST opponent. GU jumped to 26-17 overall with a 7-7 BIG EAST mark while the Pirates fell to 13-30 overall with a 3-8 conference record.

"An unbelievable job by Carter Bosch. He pitched well enough and strong enough to handle business today. Our offense was really consistent. We had five two-out hits, including a big three-run double from Cam Meyer. Nolan Matsko played some unbelievable defense and had a big hit for us as well. Overall, a positive day with limited walks and allowing just four hits." - Head Coach Edwin Thompson on today's win

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Cam Meyer paced the Hoya offense with four RBIs, finishing 2-for-4 at the dish and adding two runs scored.
  • Jake Hyde led Georgetown with three hits on the day while driving in one and scoring three times.
  • Christian Ficca drove in a pair of runs while Matsko tallied an RBI in Saturday's contest.
  • Carter Bosch dominated through 6.2 innings of work, allowing just three hits and striking out five batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hoyas jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind a one-run single from Hyde and an RBI groundout by Ficca in the bottom of the first.
  • After a blank second frame, the Hoyas capitalized on a Pirate miscue and scored five runs in the third inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, SHU threw one away and allowed a run to cross (3-0). Meyer stepped in with runners on every base and belted a three-run double to right (6-0). In the ensuing at-bat, Matsko laced an RBI single to left for a 7-0 edge.
  • Georgetown bumped its lead to eight with a one-run single from Ficca in the fourth (8-0).
  • Bosch jammed the Seton Hall lineup through the first five frames, allowing no runner past first base.
  • Meyer delivered a solo shot to left center in the home half of the fifth, pushing the GU advantage to nine (9-0).
  • Jack Weeks came on in relief in the seventh with two outs and runners on first and second. With one pitch, he ended Seton Hall's threat on a popup behind the plate before closing the door over the final two innings for the team's second shutout.

OF NOTE
  • First back-to-back shutouts since 1989 against Coppin State.
  • First series win against Seton Hall since 2016 where the Hoyas took two of three.
